Background / History

Fugaku was the head of the Uchiha Clan when news reached Konoha that Uchiha Lin Chen had annihilated Iwagakure forces at Kannabi Bridge. Recognizing that Lin Chen identified himself as an abandoned Uchiha and might resent the clan, Fugaku prohibited clansmen from approaching, discussing, or disrespecting him until his intentions were known. 4

After Root was annihilated, Fugaku judged that Lin Chen was both a danger and the Uchiha’s best chance to escape Konoha’s political pressure. He went alone to Lin Chen’s cottage, apologized for the clan’s treatment of him, and offered the clan’s resources and any position Lin Chen wished to hold. 6

Lin Chen revealed the future extermination of the Uchiha Clan and demanded full control as the condition for saving it. Fugaku accepted, relinquishing authority over the clan and pledging its obedience. 6
