Background and History

The Sun Moon Empire sought to keep the three mainland nations divided, viewing a stable alliance between Star Luo and the former Heaven Dou territories as an obstacle to its own expansion. It therefore opposed the proposed political marriage between Star Luo’s Xu Yueran and the Dou Ling Emperor, which could have stabilized the continent’s balance of power. 147

Fifteen years before Yuwen Tuo learned of his heritage, the previous Sun Moon Emperor and his entire family died during a sudden internal upheaval. The prince connected to Xu Yueran’s abduction subsequently ascended the throne; while the official explanation was food poisoning, Wei Na believed the incident was a rebellion. 147

The Empire had gathered intelligence on Yuwen Tuo while he was imprisoned by Shrek Academy. Ma Lao of the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy approached him with an offer to join the Empire and revealed knowledge of his six-year imprisonment. 104 After learning that Yuwen possessed Sun Moon imperial blood and exceptional talent, the Emperor ordered Jing Hongchen to retrieve him. 168 209

Yuwen Tuo eventually entered Mingdu and met the Emperor and Crown Prince Xu Tianran. After displaying his Soul King cultivation, Gold Grade Body Martial Soul Second Awakening, and Body Sect backing, he was granted the title of Flame Prince and the fief of Flame City. 235 The arrangement quickly collapsed when the Emperor admitted that he had allowed the Holy Spirit Cult to raid Yuwen Tuo’s residence and abduct Wei Na; he then deemed Yuwen a threat to be eliminated. 285

Yuwen Tuo captured the Emperor alive during his escape from Mingdu, while the Empire’s enshrinement corps pursued him and his allies. 288 290 His actions exposed the Empire’s suspected cooperation with Evil Soul Masters, caused panic among Mingdu’s civilians, and intensified the imperial succession conflict surrounding Xu Tianran. 293

Following later internal unrest, Xu Guozhong prevailed in the struggle for the throne with Kong Deming’s support. He consolidated the damaged Soul Engineer Legions, suppressed rebellions, and rebuilt the Empire’s military strength. 446

Mingdu Encirclement

Under Xu Tianran, the Empire attempted to trap and eliminate large numbers of Titled Douluo from the three mainland nations, Shrek Academy, and the Body Sect within Mingdu before launching full-scale war. 375 376 Yuwen Tuo countered by gathering Titled Douluo and ambushing the dispersed Soul Engineer Legions, destroying the formations before their Linked Defensive Soul Tools could be activated and causing the Empire to lose control of Mingdu. 398

First Continental War

The Empire formally began the continental war by firing a Level 9 Fixed Soul Cannon. 481 Its Soul Engineer Legions rapidly broke Star Luo’s western defenses, with the Sun Moon Divine Needle and Divine Moon Legion overwhelming the White Tiger Duke’s forces. 482

The Empire’s campaigns later suffered severe losses, including the near destruction of the Rising Sun and Divine Moon Legions. Kong Deming’s emergence as a Rank 10 Soul Engineer and the intervention of the Hall of Enshrinement and Royal Legion repelled the allied counteroffensive, forcing a temporary end to the war. 509

Second Invasion of Heavenly Soul

With Xue Mo offering cooperation, Jing Hongchen led an army through Maple Forest and occupied Maple Leaf City before advancing toward Tianling City. 537 538 Kong Deming used Tianling City as a trap for Du Busi, deploying the High-Energy Compression Array against the Limit Douluo. 539

The Empire subsequently entered Heaven Dou City through its western gate with Xue Mo’s assistance, targeting the Imperial Palace and key officials rather than indiscriminately attacking the population. 543 The campaign ultimately provoked a united counteroffensive after the Sun Moon Empire was blamed for the destruction of Shrek Academy and the death of the Snow Heart Emperor. 557 560

Yuwen Tuo’s return enabled the Heavenly Soul forces to recapture occupied cities, dismantle Soul Guidance Cannon defenses, and advance deep into Sun Moon territory. In less than a month, Heavenly Soul forces had swept across roughly half of the Empire and approached Mingdu. 557 558 565
