Background / History

Established under the authority of the Great Chu Emperor, the Demon Suppression Division exists to protect populated areas from “the strange” and other threats beyond ordinary law enforcement. Its offices are positioned prominently in prosperous areas because their protection is considered especially necessary there. 22

The organization operates throughout Great Chu at county, prefectural, provincial, and capital levels. A prefectural division possesses greater manpower, combat strength, and intelligence resources than a county branch. 103 The capital-level division is also called the Town Demon Division. 214

In An Ding County, the Division investigated the appearance of a black shadow creature and quickly identified that an unknown blade master had intervened. 9 It subsequently led the campaign against the Beast Sect, working with the county yamen and its constables to locate and assault the sect’s Cloud Mountain lair. 22 36

After the Beast Sect operation, the Division registered Zhou An as a martial artist while agreeing to conceal his identity as the mysterious expert. Head Constable Xie was promoted into the organization for his role in the operation. 42 43

By the time Zhou An became Capital Magistrate, the Huaixi Capital branch was responsible for major internal investigations, containment operations, intelligence work, and responses to threats such as Zongxing, bizarre assemblies, the Strange Village, and unrest in the Spirit Connection Space. 215 216 221 234 246
