Background / History

Yu Hang begins as a constable and Zhou An's childhood friend. While serving at the yamen, he studies under a tutor, though supernatural disturbances in the tutor's neighborhood make it difficult for him to arrive on time and continue his lessons 2.

He maintains a close bond with Zhou An, sharing meals, patrols, and discussions of their ambitions. Yu Hang is supportive of Zhou An's interests, including encouraging his cooking, and later offers Zhou An a place in the administration Yu Hang hopes to lead in the future 6 26.

During an encounter with the rat-like creature Sun Dan, Yu Hang learns that Zhou An is the mysterious expert who has been operating in secret. Though initially awkward about the revelation, he accepts Zhou An's wish to conceal his identity and remains loyal to him 15.

Personality

Yu Hang is observant, rational, and politically ambitious. During the missing-children investigation at Clear Stream River, he challenges the assumption that evidence would remain at the site, noting that the current would have carried it downstream 50.
