Background and History

White Crane Boy first works around the Profound Heaven Dao Academy as a flying mount for disciples, charging one spirit stone per trip. It leaves its aura on Lu Qing’s jade token so that he can summon the correct crane in the vast sect. 6

Its business relationship with Lu Qing gradually becomes friendship. After visiting Lu Qing because the other cranes it knew had departed, it receives its first cup of tea and gives him an extraordinary white feather in return. A descendant of the White Crane Ancestor, White Crane Boy is favored within its clan and able to roam freely near the Dao Academy. Its elder brother, White Crane, and Elder Song Wen eventually pressure it to cultivate more seriously rather than remaining at Foundation Establishment indefinitely. 34 160

After entering the Nine Heavens, White Crane Boy chooses a fixed residence at Misty-Wave Lake and continues cultivating under its ancestor’s supervision. It guides Lu Qing to the Nine Heavens entrance, supplies him with maps, intelligence, and sound-transmission talismans, and remains one of his closest companions despite their separate cultivation paths. 218 219 240

Upon reaching Golden Core, White Crane Boy leaves the Dao Sect with Lu Qing for Bixin Mountain. It is kind-hearted but naive. When it encounters seemingly frail elders without spirit stones, it gives them rides and accepts valuable Water Dragon Fruits as payment without recognizing their worth. It also dislikes the blood, corpses, and turbid qi associated with violent cultivation, agreeing with Lu Qing that immortality is meaningless without life. 29 34

The Boy also has a mischievous, acquisitive streak. It covertly takes treasures from a floating island and rationalizes them as compensation for its work, provided they are not spirit stones. 156 It enjoys showing off its ability to make objects disappear unnoticed. 160
