Background

Before becoming the Demon Race's Cloud Emperor, Hong Yun rarely returned to his cave abode, Fire Cloud Cave. He spent most of his time at Five Villages Temple on Mount Longevity with Zhen Yuanzi. 93

Hong Yun accepted Dijun's invitation to join the Demon Race Heavenly Court, with Zhen Yuanzi joining alongside him. The two subsequently used Heavenly Dao merit to sever their good corpses and advance into the Quasi-Saint Realm. 60 61

Hongjun later summoned Hong Yun and Zhen Yuanzi to Purple Cloud Palace and directed them toward founding teachings as their paths to sainthood. Hong Yun established the Teaching of Interception under a Heavenly Dao oath, declaring its purpose to be securing “a sliver of survival” for the living beings of the Primordial World. The merit from this act allowed him to attain sainthood, after which he established Jade Wandering Palace on Golden Turtle Island in the East Sea. 109 113

Personality

Hong Yun generally presents himself as courteous, patient, and accommodating. He initially sought to keep the Teaching of Interception out of external disputes, refusing Houtu's request for an unconditional alliance with the Nine Netherworld and instead offering spiritual treasures as compensation. 145

His conciliatory manner does not mean passivity. He protects his disciples, openly confronted Tongtian after the latter crippled Xiao Sheng and Cao Bao, and personally prevented Zhunti from taking Shen Gongbao into the Western Religion. 154 330 He can also be calculating: he attempted to have the Three Pure Ones help select his sect's disciples, then concealed his resentment when they declined. 155
