Background / History

Tongtian resided on Kunlun Mountain when recurring feelings of unease led him to conclude that his yet-unaccepted future disciple was repeatedly facing mortal danger. After sensing four such crises over several centuries, he departed for the East Sea to find and accept that disciple before they could perish. 12

Unable to divine Bi Xiao’s precise location because the heavenly secrets had become chaotic, Tongtian waited at the Three Immortal Isles. His concealed observation of Lei Xiao triggered an instinctive clash between Tongtian’s Sword Dao and Lei Xiao’s Eye of Heavenly Retribution, injuring Lei Xiao; Tongtian immediately apologized and healed much of the damage with innate clear qi. 14

He accepted Bi Xiao and Lei Xiao as personal disciples, imparting the complete Nine-Turn Primordial Essence Art to both. After helping locate and save Yun Xiao and Qiong Xiao, he also accepted them as personal disciples; Zhao Gongming later entered his sect as a registered disciple. 15 17 27

When Zhunti attempted to take Yun Xiao and Qiong Xiao to the West, Tongtian intervened, protected Bi Xiao from Zhunti’s assault, and fought Zhunti in the starry sky. He later slew the Innate Yin-Yang Baleful Qi Flood Dragon with a single sword strike and severely wounded Zhunti in retaliation for targeting Lei Xiao. 20 21 26 27

Following the conflict, Tongtian took the flood dragon’s corpse to refine an innate spirit treasure for Yun Xiao. He left a strand of protective Sword Qi within each disciple before entering seclusion to recover from the backlash of his battle with Zhunti. 27 28

Appearance

Tongtian is a tall, lean Daoist whose robes are described in azure, blue, green, and dark tones. His bearing is calm and restrained, though his presence carries the pressure of a late-stage Great Luo Golden Immortal. 12 14 15 20

Personality

Tongtian is naturally carefree and unruly, but intensely protective of those connected to him. Before even meeting his future disciple, their repeated near-death experiences caused him enough concern to leave Kunlun Mountain personally. 12

He values sincerity and emotional bonds above talent or origin. He accepts Lei Xiao and Bi Xiao because of their genuine concern for their siblings, then acts immediately when Yun Xiao and Qiong Xiao are believed to be in danger. 16

Though usually calm and direct, Tongtian becomes openly wrathful when others threaten his disciples. His conflict with Zhunti escalates after Zhunti’s attack endangers Bi Xiao and attempts to manipulate the Dao hearts of all four siblings. 20 21 26

Tongtian’s Dao manifests as a formless, absolute sword intent that severs restraints and strikes directly at the Dao heart. Lei Xiao perceives it as a sword standing alone between heaven and earth, sharp enough that even the Heavenly Dao would retreat before it. 14
