Background / History

The sect's ancient inheritance included the Corpse King Blood Refinement Art, which was passed down from the Divine Blood Sect and originally contained a complete route from Qi Refining to Golden Core 128. Its true foundational art, however, is the nine-level Corpse King Reincarnation Art, a dual dharma-and-body cultivation method said to correspond to the nine major cultivation realms and lead to immortality 275 381.

At its height, the ancient Divine Blood Sect dominated the cultivation world. Its two foremost undertakings were the hybridization of strange creatures and exploration of the Ghost Mist Domain; many of its disciples reportedly died during the latter effort 798. It also built the Divine Blood Hall, whose central region, Divine Blood Peak, housed the Path to Heaven used to select core disciples 780.

The hybridization program gathered unusual creatures throughout the Heavenly Origin Realm. Coffin inscriptions in the Divine Blood Hall recorded creatures with traces of the Kui Bull, Vermilion Bird, True Dragon, and Feilian, among other divine beasts 798. A surviving phantom described the Nether Fox within a stone coffin as the sect's greatest harvest in the Heavenly Origin Realm 800.

According to Blood Brow, the ancient sect's cultivators in the Heavenly Origin Realm did not exceed peak Nascent Soul cultivation. Nevertheless, some had advanced their spiritual sense to the Spirit Transformation realm ahead of their cultivation, and the sect possessed spirit treasures surpassing top-grade magical treasures 838.

The ancient sect declined and vanished from the lower realm tens of thousands of years ago. Blood Brow, imprisoned before its fall, could only speculate that a great upheaval killed or caused the ascension of many high-level cultivators 667. Xugeng later revealed that the sect had been founded by people from the Immortal Realm, while he himself had been selected in the Profound Realm to manage its affairs 1884.

Song Wen later explained that the Divine Blood Sects of the Heavenly Origin Realm and the Profound Realm were the same organization, but that the Profound Realm sect had abandoned its lower-realm counterpart 1525.

In the present era, the sect is centered in Cangwu Province and commands extensive territory, subordinate factions, cultivation resources, and a vast treasury 1553 1898. Its influence extends across the Eastern Profound Continent and beyond through affiliated halls, clans, and teleportation formations 1471 1819.

After Xugeng's ascension, the sect endured a succession crisis, rebellions by subordinate forces, and a major siege by Tribulation Transcendence cultivators. Song Wen's assumption of the sect master position and Ying Wu's subsequent return with the Kui Bull restored its standing; its renown thereafter spread throughout the Profound Realm 1897 1966 2036.

The retaliation against Pagoda Temple eventually expanded the sect's nominal authority into Candle Dragon Province. Rather than administering the province directly, the sect selected several second-rate factions to govern it and pay regular tribute. The expedition also yielded vast quantities of cultivation materials 2010.

Nether Owl Dao Lord oversaw the sect's affairs for the fifteen years following Ming Yuan's death. Despite internal unrest and external threats, he kept the organization from falling apart, which contributed to Song Wen's decision to appoint him Grand Elder 1897.

When Song Wen succeeded, more than a hundred Mahayana and Integrated Body cultivators emerged from the sect to witness the leadership decision. These cultivators constituted its high-level backbone 1897.

Divine Blood Hall Inheritance

Song Wen first learned that the Corpse King Blood Refinement Art originated from the long-vanished Divine Blood Sect after acquiring Shi Shou's genuine copy of the art 128. Later discoveries connected Blood Brow, Blood Cloud Cave, the Corpse King Reincarnation Art, and the Divine Blood Hall to the sect's ancient legacy 275 703.

Blood Brow had murdered a sect genius in an attempt to obtain the Corpse King Reincarnation Art, only to acquire its first three levels. After her crime was exposed, the sect moved to eliminate Blood Cloud Cave. Its disciples fled after receiving advance warning, while Blood Brow's body was destroyed and her Nascent Soul captured 275.

The expedition into the Divine Blood Hall exposed remnants of the sect's past: Divine Blood Peak, its core-disciple selection path, stone coffins containing hybrid beings with divine-beast traces, and evidence of its experiments in creature hybridization 780 798.

At Divine Blood Peak, the Path to Heaven subjected climbers to gravity restrictions that increased with cultivation level. Blood Brow explained that the ancient core-disciple selection required perseverance rather than a convenient shortcut 780. The expedition also encountered a phantom that identified a coffined Nether Fox as the sect's greatest harvest in the Heavenly Origin Realm 800.

Conflict with the Modern Sect

As Song Wen entered the Profound Realm, he repeatedly encountered Divine Blood Sect members and affiliates. He exposed its operations in Southern Nether Province, fought its cultivators, and used their inheritance and identity markers to manipulate others' perceptions of his affiliation 1106 1180 1207.

The sect attempted to recruit Song Wen through Hong Zhe, who offered him membership before attacking him when he refused 1156. Later envoys Zhu Tui and Zen Master Guang Hui similarly tried to recruit him on Qicang Island, only for Song Wen to overpower them and destroy Moon-Covering Hall 1709 1710.

During an earlier confrontation in the Source-Qi Death Domain, Song Wen killed Gong Tianzong and Feng Chang. Gong Tianzong's connection to Lord Xuan Gu was revealed through a divided soul hidden within him, but Song Wen devoured it. A black-robed cultivator subsequently investigated the battlefield and pursued Song Wen's aura until his trail disappeared 1388.

Yu Bi later pursued Song Wen, then known as Gu Huang, and recognized his extraordinary mastery of restricted sect techniques. Song Wen escaped the mid-Mahayana elder through a Death-Substitute Puppet and Blood Shadow Thousand Illusions rather than overcoming the cultivation gap directly 1564.

Xugeng's Invitation and Ascension

Xugeng recruited Ying Wu as an Honorary Supreme Elder and Song Wen as an honorary elder, primarily seeking Ying Wu's Void Dragon Vine 1806 1807. Their tokens granted access to major sect locations, personnel, and resources appropriate to their ranks 1807.

Ying Wu's request for Song Wen's honorary position also offered him protection from pursuit over his knowledge of the sect's restricted arts. Xugeng demonstrated his willingness to accommodate her by handing Blood Skeleton Lord over to her custody 1807.

Song Wen and Ying Wu entered the sect before Xugeng's third heavenly tribulation, explored its resources, and became embroiled in tensions with Kurong and Ming Yuan 1820 1823 1834. Xugeng survived the tribulation and later ascended to the upper realm, leaving a leadership vacuum 1830 1867.

Their visit included Ying Wu's killing of Yan Ming, an inner sect elder and Ming Yuan's personal disciple, after he defied her. Kurong warned that Ming Yuan would not let the matter pass 1823.

Succession of Extreme Yin

Following Ming Yuan's death, the sect was besieged by more than ten subordinate factions seeking its treasury, secret arts, and cultivation methods 1893 1894. Song Wen revealed his Tribulation Transcendence cultivation, recruited Qingxuanzi as deputy sect master, and helped eradicate the besieging forces 1895 1896.

The blockade threatened both ordinary cultivation and the sect's defenses by preventing the replenishment of essential supplies, including spirit stones and pills. Qingxuanzi had originally supported the coalition before Song Wen persuaded him to change sides in exchange for rank and access to the sect's inheritance 1895.

The sect's elders then recognized Song Wen as Sect Master. He appointed Qingxuanzi and Nether Owl Dao Lord to senior positions, ordered reprisals against the attacking factions, and began consolidating the sect's resources and prestige 1897.

Song Wen planned a succession ceremony for one year later to announce his accession throughout the Profound Realm 1897. He also tasked Mo You with spreading claims that the Corpse King Reincarnation Art had enabled Xugeng to survive three lightning tribulations, supplying incomplete methods and a pill formula to attract powerful cultivators 1900.

When Song Wen returned with the captured Myriad Corpses Ancestor, hundreds of thousands of disciples participated in a grand welcome above Blood Radiance City. The public display of a captured Tribulation Transcendence cultivator enhanced both the sect's prestige and Song Wen's reputation 1914.

Siege of Blood Radiance City

Song Wen's circulation of incomplete Corpse King Reincarnation Art methods helped spread the sect's reputation but also provoked powerful cultivators to covet its inheritance 1900 1961. Qing Yuan, Bi Jing, Patriarch Fakong, Youye, and Yan'e later besieged the sect with five Tribulation Transcendence cultivators 1955 1956.

The confrontation escalated after Song Wen killed Yin Jiu. Qing Yuan's group demanded the sect's cultivation arts and treasures, then threatened to destroy its less-protected cities and industries if it refused to comply within a month 1947 1948. Youye and Yan'e initially offered assistance in exchange for all the sect's cultivation arts and secret techniques before joining the attackers 1949 1955.

Although Song Wen considered evacuating through the teleportation formations, Xuan Li urged him not to abandon the sect 1956. Ying Wu eventually returned with the Kui Bull, defeated the enemy forces, and saved the Divine Blood Sect from destruction 1966.

The besiegers included two late-, two mid-, and one early-stage Tribulation Transcendence cultivator. Their formation-breaking effort employed Monk No Thought, a peak-Mahayana formation expert, while Kong Dang coordinated the sect's formation masters to maintain the protective array 1956.

In the aftermath, Song Wen executed the traitor Yuan Rong and ordered retaliatory action against Pagoda Temple, while the sect publicly celebrated Ying Wu and the Kui Bull for preserving its legacy 1966.

Candle Dragon Province Campaign and Reconstruction

The campaign against Pagoda Temple continued for years until its remaining forces were completely eradicated. Candle Dragon Province was then nominally placed under the Divine Blood Sect, with several selected second-rate factions governing it on the sect's behalf and paying regular tribute. The returning expeditionary army carried extensive spoils of heavenly treasures and earthly materials 2010.

At the same time, the western region of Cangwu Province suffered a shortage of cultivators after the insect race's ravaging, leaving mines, spirit fields, and other properties neglected. Song Wen ordered Xuan Li to send sect disciples and recruit Rogue Cultivators and small factions to rebuild cities and restore important industries 2010.

Ascension Phenomenon

Before this phenomenon, Song Wen received high-ranking cultivators from other sects who came to offer congratulations and commissioned replacement spirit treasures for those damaged during his tribulation 2036.
