Background / History

The sect's ancient inheritance included the Corpse King Blood Refinement Art, which was passed down from the Divine Blood Sect and originally contained a complete route from Qi Refining to Golden Core 128. Its true foundational art, however, is the nine-level Corpse King Reincarnation Art, a dual dharma-and-body cultivation method said to correspond to the nine major cultivation realms and lead to immortality 275 381.

At its height, the ancient Divine Blood Sect dominated the cultivation world. Its two foremost undertakings were the hybridization of strange creatures and exploration of the Ghost Mist Domain; many of its disciples reportedly died during the latter effort 798. It also built the Divine Blood Hall, whose central region, Divine Blood Peak, housed the Path to Heaven used to select core disciples 780.

The ancient sect declined and vanished from the lower realm tens of thousands of years ago. Blood Brow, imprisoned before its fall, could only speculate that a great upheaval killed or caused the ascension of many high-level cultivators 667. Xugeng later revealed that the sect had been founded by people from the Immortal Realm, while he himself had been selected in the Profound Realm to manage its affairs 1884.

In the present era, the sect is centered in Cangwu Province and commands extensive territory, subordinate factions, cultivation resources, and a vast treasury 1553 1898. Its influence extends across the Eastern Profound Continent and beyond through affiliated halls, clans, and teleportation formations 1471 1819.

Cultivation Arts and Practices

Corpse King Reincarnation Art

The sect's sole true foundational art refines both body and dharma. It has nine levels corresponding to the nine major cultivation realms, and its complete inheritance is considered the basis of the sect's ascension methods 275 381.

  • Intended to lead directly toward immortality when cultivated to completion 275.
  • Requires large quantities of corpse-path spiritual materials 275.
  • Its reputation for enabling rapid advancement attracted repeated attempts by outside cultivators to seize it 1944 1955.
  • Song Wen later distributed incomplete methods and related information to draw ambitious cultivators toward the sect 1900.

Corpse King Blood Refinement Art

A corpse-path body-refining art that strengthens the cultivator by refining blood qi into essence blood and using it to temper the physical body 47.

  • Draws upon blood qi, corpse baleful qi, and corpse-path materials 30 47.
  • The art is associated with the sect's Blood Nether Guards and is treated as an exclusive inheritance 381.
  • Its practitioners can suffer corpse-qi backlash when their mastery is inadequate or when affected by Source-Qi 1207.
  • The sect recruits cultivators of this art, regarding its lineage as valuable 1630.

Longevity Art

Though often described alongside the Corpse King Blood Refinement Art as one of the sect's two great foundational arts, Blood Brow stated that the Corpse King Reincarnation Art alone was the true foundation 381.

  • Longevity Art cultivators are treated as valuable life-extending resources within the sect's system 1054 1485.
  • The Rong Clan trains some members in orthodox arts before directing them to switch to the Longevity Art after attaining Mahayana 1478.
  • The sect possesses secret methods capable of devouring a Longevity Art cultivator's life force 1485.

Blood Sea Seal

A core-disciple treasure and blood-path technique capable of producing an immense sea or tide of blood 1106 1521.

  • Only a handful of core disciples are qualified to learn its refinement method 1710.
  • Requires enormous quantities of essence blood for refinement and growth 463 976.
  • Can crush defenses through compression, swallow corpses, and overwhelm enemy cultivators 1106.
  • Later developed by Song Wen into the Blood Sea Imperial Seal 1406.

Lightning Arts

The sect possesses the Thunder-Commanding Divine Control Ritual Altar, an Immortal Realm relic that can enhance a cultivator's lightning aptitude but cannot create aptitude where none exists 1916.

  • Access to the altar is restricted and comes at a price, even for inner sect elders 1916.
  • Not all sect members cultivate lightning arts 1916.
  • The simultaneous use of corpse qi and lightning arts is widely recognized as a sign of Divine Blood Sect affiliation 1111 1284.

Resources and Infrastructure

  • Scripture Repository — contains cultivation arts, secret techniques, pill formulas, and alchemical insights 1823.
  • Treasury — an underground storehouse protected by formations, Void Refinement guards, and Mahayana elder Tang Chuan; it holds major reserves of spirit stones, pills, spirit herbs, and magical treasures 1898 1899.
  • Spiritual fields — span more than 5,000 li and cultivate rare herbs, including Spirit Embryo Fruit 1824.
  • Myriad Paths Pavilion — houses the sect's teleportation formations 1956.
  • Blood Radiance City — serves as a major market where corpse-path, ghost-path, blood-path, poison-path, and other demonic cultivators gather under the sect's authority 1553.
  • Divine Blood Hall — ancient sect legacy divided into numerous regions by restrictions and formations; entry requires a Bronze Key Coffin 733.
  • Divine Blood Peak — the core region of the Divine Blood Hall, containing the Path to Heaven 780.

Policies and Reputation

  • The sect forbids the killing or capture of Nether Foxes, though the reason for this protection is not known to ordinary members 1183.
  • It previously expended extensive effort to eradicate Bodhi Spirit Stamens from Qicang Island 1111.
  • Its forces have conducted corpse-cultivation operations in the Source-Qi Death Domain and maintained blood-soaked underground facilities filled with countless mortal remains 1206 1207.
  • Fuliang, a late Void Refinement sect superior, ordered the massacre of an entire village to provide corpses for subordinates suffering corpse-qi backlash 1207.
  • Subordinate factions accused the sect of extracting yearly tribute and allowing disciples to seize resources and people with impunity 1894.
  • Under Song Wen, the sect publicly claimed to protect Cangwu Province while threatening annihilation against any force that violated its authority 1914.

Major Arcs

Divine Blood Hall Inheritance

Song Wen first learned that the Corpse King Blood Refinement Art originated from the long-vanished Divine Blood Sect after acquiring Shi Shou's genuine copy of the art 128. Later discoveries connected Blood Brow, Blood Cloud Cave, the Corpse King Reincarnation Art, and the Divine Blood Hall to the sect's ancient legacy 275 703.

The expedition into the Divine Blood Hall exposed remnants of the sect's past: Divine Blood Peak, its core-disciple selection path, stone coffins containing hybrid beings with divine-beast traces, and evidence of its experiments in creature hybridization 780 798.

Conflict with the Modern Sect

As Song Wen entered the Profound Realm, he repeatedly encountered Divine Blood Sect members and affiliates. He exposed its operations in Southern Nether Province, fought its cultivators, and used their inheritance and identity markers to manipulate others' perceptions of his affiliation 1106 1180 1207.

The sect attempted to recruit Song Wen through Hong Zhe, who offered him membership before attacking him when he refused 1156. Later envoys Zhu Tui and Zen Master Guang Hui similarly tried to recruit him on Qicang Island, only for Song Wen to overpower them and destroy Moon-Covering Hall 1709 1710.

Xugeng's Invitation and Ascension

Xugeng recruited Ying Wu as an Honorary Supreme Elder and Song Wen as an honorary elder, primarily seeking Ying Wu's Void Dragon Vine 1806 1807. Their tokens granted access to major sect locations, personnel, and resources appropriate to their ranks 1807.

Song Wen and Ying Wu entered the sect before Xugeng's third heavenly tribulation, explored its resources, and became embroiled in tensions with Kurong and Ming Yuan 1820 1823 1834. Xugeng survived the tribulation and later ascended to the upper realm, leaving a leadership vacuum 1830 1867.

Succession of Extreme Yin

Following Ming Yuan's death, the sect was besieged by more than ten subordinate factions seeking its treasury, secret arts, and cultivation methods 1893 1894. Song Wen revealed his Tribulation Transcendence cultivation, recruited Qingxuanzi as deputy sect master, and helped eradicate the besieging forces 1895 1896.

The sect's elders then recognized Song Wen as Sect Master. He appointed Qingxuanzi and Nether Owl Dao Lord to senior positions, ordered reprisals against the attacking factions, and began consolidating the sect's resources and prestige 1897.

Siege of Blood Radiance City

Song Wen's circulation of incomplete Corpse King Reincarnation Art methods helped spread the sect's reputation but also provoked powerful cultivators to covet its inheritance 1900 1961. Qing Yuan, Bi Jing, Patriarch Fakong, Youye, and Yan'e later besieged the sect with five Tribulation Transcendence cultivators 1955 1956.

Although Song Wen considered evacuating through the teleportation formations, Xuan Li urged him not to abandon the sect 1956. Ying Wu eventually returned with the Kui Bull, defeated the enemy forces, and saved the Divine Blood Sect from destruction 1966.
