Background / History

Before transmigrating, Dugu Lin was an amateur artist fascinated by Martial Souls and soul skills. He commissioned a blank album decorated with Martial Soul patterns so that he could draw the spirits he liked; after falling asleep over his work, he awakened reborn in the Douluo Continent with that album transformed into his second Martial Soul. 6

Born as Dugu Bo’s grandson and Dugu Yan’s younger brother, he inherited the Dugu Clan’s Jade Phosphorous Serpent lineage. His mother came from a branch of the Dragon-Snake Family and died shortly after giving birth to him. 23 Though physically a child, Dugu Lin retains the memories and maturity of his prior life, which he reveals to Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan. He tells them of Tang San’s future betrayal and the deaths of both relatives during the Three Gods’ War. 5

Dugu Lin recognizes the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well as the Dugu Clan’s greatest resource. He convinces Dugu Bo that the medicinal garden contains immortal herbs capable of evolving Martial Souls and laying the foundation for godhood, while exposing Tang San’s alleged future theft of those resources. 3 He subsequently uses the well’s herbs, whale glue, body tempering, and carefully selected soul rings to exceed ordinary absorption limits. 16 48

Appearance

Dugu Lin grows unusually quickly. At age eleven, he is already over six feet tall and stands taller than Ye Lingling. 37

Personality

Dugu Lin is ambitious, calculating, and unusually composed for his age. After recovering his past-life memories, he makes becoming a god—and surpassing Tang San—his central goal. 6 He plans long-term around immortal herbs, soul bones, political alliances, and the known futures of major figures such as Qian Renxue and Tang San. 8 13

His concern for the Dugu Clan is genuine. He values the family he lacked in his previous life, especially Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan, and repeatedly chooses resources and cultivation paths intended to free them from the Jade Phosphorous Serpent’s inherited poison. 12 21 26 However, he is also willing to manipulate, threaten, or eliminate those he considers obstacles or disposable pawns. 17 107 118

Slaughter City further reveals his ruthlessness. He enters intending to kill without mercy, wins battle royales through lethal force, and adopts the title “Blood-Handed Butcher.” 107 109
