A day later, Liao Chang was brought by Cultivator Guo to pay a visit to Zhang Yu.
He now knew of the agreement between Zhang Yu and the Origin Upper Hall. Yet, as someone born of the various Ways—though merely from a collateral branch—he instinctively looked down on cultivators from other worlds. He had not thought much of Zhang Yu, Celestial Xia's envoy, and had been rather dismissive before coming.
But when he arrived before Zhang Yu and saw the latter's gaze turn toward him, his heart abruptly tightened. He felt an immense pressure bore straight into his mind. Unconsciously, he bowed and lowered his bearing, saying humbly, "Greetings, Exalted True Person Zhang."
Cultivator Guo remained impassive at the side.
Zhang Yu said, "You are Liao Chang?"
Liao Chang said, "Yes, that is I."
Zhang Yu said, "True Person Liao, you too are a man of cultivation. Though your cultivation is merely ordinary, as a cultivator of Origin Xia, every movement you make upon arriving in Celestial Xia will inevitably draw close attention. Therefore, you must remain at our side and may not act recklessly on your own.
"If there is anything you intend to arrange and cannot determine yourself, come ask me first. Otherwise, should something go wrong, even if I can preserve you, you will still have to explain yourself to the various Deliberative Councilors of the Upper Hall."
Liao Chang covertly glanced at Cultivator Guo. Seeing no reaction from him, he said, "Yes, yes. I am willing to obey Envoy Zhang's every instruction."
Zhang Yu said, "Then True Person Liao may return and make preparations first. When we depart on the return journey another day, come here again."
Liao Chang bowed in salute. Cultivator Guo also bowed and said, "Then Guo shall take his leave as well."
