After discussing the Dao with Daoist Mi Zu, Zhang Yu had more or less seen clearly that this man was indeed connected to the Nether Riding Sect. His Dao lay in holding fast to himself and seizing opportunities to rise.
Simply put, his fundamental Dao method generally leaned toward withdrawing from the world, though not to the extreme of the Nether Riding Sect. Rather, he assessed the times and weighed the circumstances; whichever side he ought to draw close to, he immediately did so, climbing upward by attaching himself to it and perfecting his own Dao thereby.
For this reason, his strategy was to seek out a person or force he could rely upon, so that it might carry him upward along the Dao as well. By coming to seek him out now, the other party was also faintly revealing his wish to form a bond of mutual support with him.
Daoist Mi Zu had formerly submitted to the five Overseers because he had no choice. But after seeing Zhang Yu slay six great powers of the Upper Layer in succession, he realized that a variable had appeared in the Upper Layer, and that the one driving this variable was very likely Zhang Yu. Only after careful consideration had he come calling.
And by displaying his Dao methods through their discussion of the Dao, letting the other party understand what his Dao was, he also sought to gain Zhang Yu's trust.
