The reason they had sought him out was simple.
His previous battle with Tang Chi had not only established his position within the Academy and earned him a measure of renown, but had also revealed his own strength.
More importantly, Tang Chi was the junior brother of Zhong Lie, master of the Flood Mountain Dao Sect. Even if someone could defeat him, they would often fear his backing and not dare offend him. Yet Zhang Yu seemed wholly unconcerned.
Beyond that, he was a profound cultivator returned from the Overseas Protectorate Office, with no entanglements whatsoever with any of Azure Sunlight's Dao sects. To Zheng Jiu, he was undoubtedly an excellent candidate for cooperation.
After considering for a while, he looked at Zheng Jiu and said, "Inspector Zheng, if you want me to work with your Inspection Office, then there is something I need to obtain."
Zheng Jiu showed a look of understanding. "Sir Zhang, our Inspection Office is only responsible for rooting out those tainted by Nightmare Demons. We have no interest in, nor will we inquire into, anything acquired in the process."
This was in fact a hint that, during the investigations, whatever he obtained from those cultivators or Dao sects, he could keep. They had always relied on such terms to draw cultivators into their service.
Zhang Yu shook his head. "That is not what I mean. What I need is legal authority—or rather, legitimate standing."
After some thought, Zheng Jiu said, "That can be arranged. It is not particularly difficult. Sir Zhang, as a Xia citizen, you already
