After handing over his position, Zhang Yu stepped out of the main hall under the escort of Yun Chen and Wei Gao.
The three had seemingly spent little time within Profound Gaze, yet a whole night had passed without their noticing. Morning light spilled into the courtyard halls, and the entire Profound Residence seemed draped in a layer of gold. A crisp morning breeze stirred their robes. Across the distant lake, several white waterbirds skimmed the surface, leaving a string of ripples behind them.
Zhang Yu stood there and looked for a few moments before summoning it with a thought. Within only a few breaths, the enormous form of the White Boat appeared above the Profound Residence.
Turning back, he said to Yun Chen and Wei Gao, "There is no need for you two to see me off. After all, I have quite a few old friends here in Qingyang. If I have the chance, I will still come to visit."
Yun Chen raised his hands in salute and said, "Very well. Then we shall meet again another day. Take care on your patrol ahead."
Wei Gao also gave him a solemn salute.
Zhang Yu bid the two farewell once more before the hall. Then, with a light tap of his toes, his entire body seemed borne aloft by a passing wind. His Daoist robe fluttered as he flew straight into the sky, then strode unhurriedly into the White Boat.
The flying vessel slowly turned its prow, then suddenly shot forward. In an instant, it became a tiny speck before vanishing into the distant heavens.
Yun Chen watched him leave, his heart filled with emotion.
