Background & History

Zhou Yao transmigrated into the body of a high-school senior supported by an aunt in Ganyang City and by the inheritance left by his parents. Before becoming a Mythic Walker, he was physically pale from inactivity but already possessed the means to create an incarnation: the Yellow Wind Little Sage. 1 10

Seeking a route into the Mythic Walker world, Zhou Yao relied on Liu Wenjun's knowledge of mythological materials, black markets, and cultivation fundamentals. He later used the Yin Mountain Metro as the basis for his advancement ritual, making the Great Vow to “cleanse the underworld and establish order anew.” 10 78

After becoming a Scavenger, Zhou Yao was drawn into the Unofficial History Club. His control of its foremost seat and his ability to summon the Yellow Wind Little Sage across realms caused veteran members to suspect that he was an ancient deity rather than an ordinary newcomer. 81 82

Appearance

Zhou Yao is a handsome young man with sharp, angular features, slightly long black hair, and pale skin. His pitch-black eyes resemble stars in a night sky, with indistinct shadows seemingly moving within their depths. 1

  • His hair can be stirred by the Yellow Wind Little Sage's breeze, giving him a “bewitching” impression to onlookers. 11
  • While posing as a City God Envoy, he wears a black Netherworld Robe, Cloudstep Boots, and the Qing Province City God Seal. 172
  • His Yin Son of Heaven Dharma Body wears a twelve-tasseled crown and a black-and-gold dragon-embroidered imperial robe. 207
  • His Imperial Sovereign Dharma Body can expand to three hundred meters in height. 241

Personality

Zhou Yao is composed, observant, and intensely pragmatic. He bargains for the greatest possible advantage within established rules, a trait Chu Yuliang explicitly recognizes and approves of. He does not chase the approval of peers, treating his contemporaries as far less important than his larger ambitions. 105 116

He is cautious around powerful inheritances and political factions. Even when he discovers Penetrating the Netherworld, he delays cultivating it under Zou Chaoyong's observation; when he acquires the False Form, True Essence Token, he uses it to divide his public human identity from that of the Yin Son of Heaven. 140 216

Although willing to deceive, intimidate, and manipulate, Zhou Yao acts with long-term goals in mind. His Great Vow, construction of the Mount Luofeng Daoist Arena, and rescue of Yinluo City's yin souls all serve his aim of establishing a new Netherworld order. 78 214 216

Abilities & Skills

Six Heavens of Mount Luofeng / Six Heavens God

Zhou Yao's core mythic trait grants him authority over the Netherworld through a succession of heavenly palaces. By Scavenger Completion, it evolves into the Six Heavens God talent. 80 267

  • Condenses Netherworld authorities through heavenly palaces, beginning with the Palace of Absolute Yin. 80
  • Can issue an edict through the Palace of Absolute Yin to immobilize a stronger Scavenger-tier opponent. 113
  • Gains authority to judge extreme villains and send them to the Eighteen Levels of Hell. 110
  • Establishes further palaces, including the Palace of the Tai Sha Liangshi Sect, Palace of Gansi Lianwanlv, Palace of Tianzhao's Sinful Aura, and Palace of Mingchen Nanfan Wucheng. 209 222
  • His ability to fully condense and stabilize a palace is limited by his own rank and the strength of his Daoist arena. 117

Penetrating the Netherworld

Penetrating the Netherworld is the foremost of the Seventy-Two Earthly Fiend Divine Abilities. It connects yin and yang, life and death, and carries the potential to govern or rebuild a Netherworld. 140

  • Enables Zhou Yao to manifest the Yin Son of Heaven Dharma Body after reaching its beginner stage. 207
  • Makes him comparable to a Yama Lord while he controls the First Hall. 207
  • Grants sovereign status over Netherworld judgment; the Sin Mirror refuses to judge him because “a subject could not judge a sovereign.” 207
  • Remains incomplete despite its advancement, making its full inheritance and limits unavailable. 207 270

Making Falsehood Real

Making Falsehood Real is Zhou Yao's great divine power for perceiving and manipulating causality. 110 156

  • Plants False Causal Seeds that allow him to interfere with a target's fate at a later time. 156
  • Can fabricate coherent false causal chains in a target's cognition and information once a seed has been established. 178
  • Can make a yin soul believe it is a living human and mislead weaker observers into accepting that false identity. 178
  • Alters perception and information rather than physical reality. 178
  • Cannot easily read the causality of stronger, guarded targets such as Yin Sha. 176

Incarnation Creation

Zhou Yao can create and command incarnations, each carrying its own mythic traits while remaining part of him. 10 82

  • Yellow Wind Little Sage — provides wind-based movement and scouting support; Zhou Yao can borrow roughly one-third of its original strength. 109
  • Sun-Shooting Little Sage / Evil Kitty Head — manifests an illusory greatbow capable of producing a great-sun-like attack across dozens of li. 109
  • Can summon an incarnation across realms through the authority of the Unofficial History Club's foremost seat. 82
  • A third incarnation requires 10,000 Mythic Factors to unlock. 207

Mount Luofeng Daoist Arena

Using the Conch-Shell Daoist Arena's Dao Performance trait, Zhou Yao creates a rudimentary Netherworld centered on Mount Luofeng. 117

  • Houses the Central Throne and much of his Yin Spirit. 168
  • Serves as a refuge for the yin souls liberated from Yinluo Prison. 216
  • Allows Zhou Yao to establish a separate power base and receive worship as the Yin Son of Heaven. 214 216
  • Was initially unstable and vulnerable to chaotic tides due to his insufficient rank. 117

Relics and Items

  • Signpost to Hell — An Unofficial History relic that summons the Yin Mountain Metro and sends targets to the Eighteen Levels of Hell; it is ineffective against Zhou Yao due to his status as Yin Son of Heaven. 99
  • False Form, True Essence Token — An Immortals' Cast-Off Husk-quality relic that alters origins, fate, and karma, allowing Zhou Yao to impersonate deities or ancient beings. 214
  • Qing Province City God Seal — A seal Zhou Yao uses while posing as a City God Envoy in the Netherworld. 169 172
  • White Jade Capital Token — Used to substantiate his claimed connection to the Jade Void Lineage; its karmic threads can expose imitations. 169 180
  • Nether-Penetrating Treasure Seal — A treasure seal connected to the divine words of Penetrating the Netherworld. 143
  • Three-Life Stone — A damaged Immortals' Cast-Off Husk treasure used to establish the fifth Heavenly Palace. 239
  • Brahma's Token — Used alongside the False Form, True Essence Token to seek a blessing while disguised as an emissary of Heavenly Center. 227

Relationships

  • Liu Wenjun — Former deskmate and early source of Mythic Walker knowledge. She quietly removed a wealthy student who repeatedly harassed Zhou Yao, creating a lasting tacit understanding between them. 10 11
  • Chu Yuliang — City God Department teacher and recruiter. He secures Zhou Yao vault access, advises him against complacency, and brings him into the Yuanming Wenju Heaven expedition. 114 116 143
  • Yin Sha — Ghost General who formally pledges her body, soul, true spirit, and command of ten thousand elite soldiers to Zhou Yao. He accepts her oath through a False Causal Seed. 191
  • Xie An — A fellow Yin Mountain acquaintance whose fate is tied to White Impermanence. Zhou Yao remains wary of his unusual karma but later helps him regain control of his body. 152 153 216
  • Everjoy Celestial Lord — Former Unofficial History Club chief and current second-seat member. She fears Zhou Yao's authority and is suspected of hostility toward him. 117 148
  • Formless Immortal Lord — Unofficial History Club member who recognizes Zhou Yao's emperor-like Yin Spirit form and treats him with reverence. 148
  • Fujiwara Kyosuke — Initially attempts to exploit Zhou Yao through the Four Shinto Houses, but becomes fearful and submissive after repeatedly being outmaneuvered. 132 219 223
  • Fujiwara Nanase — A calculating Fujiwara Clan figure who tests and seeks to use Zhou Yao as a divine descendant; after learning he is the Yin Son of Heaven, she pledges loyalty to him. 248 259
  • Dutlin — Young master of the Hebrew Family and a major antagonist who investigates Zhou Yao after the Meng Po Bowl incident. His offer of allegiance is rejected because Zhou Yao distrusts the Hebrew Family's history of betrayal. 243 259
