A group of people walked across the wilderness. Every time they lifted their feet, clouds of sand rose with them. Each held the leash of a sled dog, with crates of goods dragged behind the animals. Ahead of them was the leading convoy.
The wind grew stronger and stronger, filling the sky with yellow sand and forcing them to squint.
One of them wiped his face and cursed under his breath. "What kind of shithole is this?"
Another tugged at the mask covering his face and replied, "Move faster."
The others said nothing, silently following the convoy ahead.
Several vehicles in front slowed slightly. They knew they were about to reach their destination.
Crossing the rolling dunes of the wilderness was no easy task, especially with the blazing sun scorching the ground overhead. Even the endurance-renowned sled dogs were panting heavily, sprawled on the ground with their tongues hanging out.
Perhaps because the windproof masks concealed their faces, they did not appear particularly exhausted aside from being covered in dust.
The vehicles pulled into a shelter from the wind. On the Dou Ling Great Wilderness, the raging winds could lift an entire row of chained vehicles into the air.
Any vehicle capable of entering the Great Wilderness had special equipment that allowed it to withstand the fierce winds while moving. However, such equipment was not cheap, and long-distance models were even more expensive. Thus, convoys were generally used to block the wind, while the goods still had to be carried by hand.
Quite a few people got out of the vehicles, shook sand from their sleeves, spat to the side, and called to the group in an unfriendly tone. "Come on, come unload the cargo."
