Tang Wulin looked at the scene before him, a trace of speechlessness flashing through his eyes.
This was fucking ridiculous!
Could his luck really be this bad?
He had only just come out of seclusion and had not even reached Sea God Lake to greet Huo Yuhao when a figure wrapped in evil fire came charging wildly from the inner courtyard. A blazing tail of flame trailed behind her, warping even the air with heat.
Ma Xiaotao's Phoenix flames were several times fiercer than when he had seen them on Sea God Island. Chaos and violence churned in her eyes, her soul rings trembled violently beneath her feet, and abnormal dark-red patterns had already appeared along the edge of her sixth ring.
Several passing outer courtyard students scattered in terror. Their screams were choked back by the heatwave before they could leave their throats.
Tang Wulin shifted on the balls of his feet. His Blue Silver Emperor martial soul instinctively began to circulate, and azure vines emerged halfway from his palm, ready to intercept her.
Suddenly, a silver figure moved faster than he did.
Gu Yuena had somehow run over from the dormitory buildings. Her silvery-white hair drew a bright arc through the wind, and she was like an arrow forged from moonlight as she hurled herself straight into Tang Wulin's arms.
"Big brother!"
Before Tang Wulin could react, the two had already collided.
In that instant, the Golden Dragon King bloodline within Tang Wulin jolted as though a massive hammer had struck a drum. It throbbed fiercely, and a scorching, violent power exploded from the depths of his heart, surging upward through his meridians.
At the same time, a silvery-white glow lit up within Gu Yuena. It was pure and cold, like melted moonlight, meeting his Golden Dragon King bloodline deep within his chest.
The two primordial powers collided, entwined, and fused, releasing a deep, ancient hum, like a colossal beast that had slept in the depths of the sea for hundreds of millions of years slowly opening its eyes.
Nine-colored radiance suddenly burst forth from their bodies.
Crimson gold, deep blue, azure green, earthy brown, bright silver, silvery white, dark gold, emerald green, and deep violet—the nine colors intertwined like a slowly unfurling river of stars, enveloping the space within several dozen zhang.
The light gathered without dispersing, carrying an ancient and majestic authority. It was like the first ray of light at the beginning of heaven and earth, and like the final sigh at the end of all things.
The radiance instantly covered Ma Xiaotao.
The turbulent, restless evil fire on her body, which had nearly spun out of control, seemed to be gently grasped by an invisible hand and pressed down inch by inch.
The flames faded from dark red to orange-red, then from orange-red to bright yellow, before finally turning into scattered sparks and vanishing into the air.
The chaos churning in Ma Xiaotao's eyes abruptly cleared for an instant. Then her entire body went limp, and she lost consciousness. Tilting backward, she fell into Sea God Lake.
With a splash, ripples exploded across the lake's surface. Her body rolled over in the water, floating face-down and motionless.
Tang Wulin lowered his head to glance at Gu Yuena, who had gone limp in his arms and was breathing faintly. Then he raised his head to look at Ma Xiaotao floating on the lake, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
Freeing one hand, he extended Blue Silver Grass from his palm. Azure vines spread across the lake's surface and rapidly wove into a fine net, accurately scooping up Ma Xiaotao's body and lifting her from the water.
But he did not pull her ashore. He simply left her hanging about half a chi above the lake, like a rice dumpling caught in a net, drifting over the water.
Dragon God Transformation, First Transformation.
The name automatically surfaced in Tang Wulin's mind. He had not expected it to be so easy to use.
He lowered his head to look at Gu Yuena in his arms. The young girl had her eyes closed, her eyelashes trembling faintly. Her breathing was still somewhat hurried, but her face was no longer as pale as before.
Several strands of silver hair across her forehead had been dampened by sweat and stuck to her brow bone. She looked as though she had just finished a long run, carrying the soft, limp dependence that came with utter exhaustion.
Tang Wulin did not move in a hurry. He simply held her in one arm and looked once more toward Sea God Lake.
Over at the Star Dou Great Forest, almost at that exact moment.
Di Tian abruptly stood up. His deep, sharp golden vertical pupils suddenly widened, and barely suppressed excitement and fervor surged within them.
His body trembled slightly as his fingers clenched the armrest, his knuckles turning pale from the force.
"I felt it... I felt it!"
His voice was low and shaking, like a beast that had been suppressed for far too long finally catching the scent of its kind. "That is the Dragon God's aura! It is Lord Dragon God's aura!"
He strode to the mouth of the cave and looked up toward Shrek Academy. His gaze pierced through layers of treetops and mist, as though he could see that fleeting nine-colored radiance far in the distance.
A suppressed growl escaped his throat, as if squeezed from the depths of his chest. "My lord... You have finally taken that step. Are you going to succeed...?"
Myriad Demon King, Bear Lord, and several other ferocious beasts charged out of their respective caves almost simultaneously, all looking in the same direction. Every one of them felt an irresistible pressure rising from the depths of their bloodlines.
However, Myriad Demon King muttered, "That shouldn't be right, should it? Could it be that Child of Nature swallowed my lord?"
That pressure came quickly and vanished just as fast, dispersing after only a few breaths. Yet that instant of impact made every dragon-type soul beast unable to resist lowering its body.
Back at Shrek Academy, Mu En shot out of Sea God Pavilion at almost the same moment.
He did not even use the door, instead vaulting straight out the window. With a few rises and falls among the branches of the Golden Ancient Tree, he swept over to the edge of Sea God Lake.
When he halted in midair, a dense mass of soul power condensed beneath his feet, suspending him over ten feet above the lake. His gaze remained locked tightly on Tang Wulin and Gu Yuena below.
His pupils contracted slightly.
He sensed a vast and ancient aura slowly dissipating. Its level was so high that it made his heart pound with dread, and his martial soul had been instantly suppressed.
Mu En's lips moved, but he made no sound. Unutterable complex emotions churned within those aged eyes.
Meanwhile, beneath the old parasol tree outside the outer courtyard dormitory buildings, Wang Dong had been dozing when she suddenly sat bolt upright, her back taut.
She looked down at her hands, then raised her head to look out the window. A trace of confusion and bewilderment passed through her blue-pink eyes.
She clearly felt something within her being lightly stirred by some external force, like a stone thrown onto a sleeping surface of water, creating a ring of ripples that vanished in an instant. But when she focused to grasp that feeling, it had disappeared completely.
Frowning, she muttered, "What was that?" Then she lay back down, turned over, and wrapped her blanket more tightly around herself.
At the center of Sea God Lake, Ma Xiaotao was still hanging in the net woven from Blue Silver Grass. Her wet hair clung to the side of her face, and her whole body swayed gently with the ripples, like a forgotten parcel on the lake's surface.
