Background / History

Fury encountered Qin Yi in 1995 while accompanying Carol Danvers to recover the Space Stone. He witnessed Qin withstand Carol’s attack and defeat her with a single punch, an experience that permanently shaped his assessment of Qin’s power. After Carol departed Earth, Fury created an Avengers file, beginning his long-term effort to assemble superpowered defenders. 8

As a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, Fury initially concealed Qin’s true threat level from General Ross, calling him a “Level Three Mutant” while privately hoping Ross would drive Qin toward S.H.I.E.L.D. 20 He later became director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division following the Skrull invasion. 41

Fury sought to recruit Qin Yi, Bruce Banner, Captain America, Pietro Maximoff, Thor, and other powerful individuals, but repeatedly found that many of his prospective assets were already aligned with Qin.
