"Those two really are idiots..."
Watching the two of them become tense and combative again, Toho Che could not help but sigh.
Although the original work had not described it, judging by their personalities, they probably had not hit it off so easily at the beginning either. They must have become the strongest partners only after countless clashes and time spent adjusting to each other.
So, he did not actually have much of an opinion about this.
The reason he sighed now was because of what would happen later in the original work.
The two of them clearly understood each other, yet neither knew the deepest thoughts in the other's heart. That led to one collision after another, until finally one of them died.
If they had been willing to spend some time sitting down and properly talking about their feelings, or their thoughts about the future, perhaps many things would never have happened.
But that seemed perfectly normal too. After all, both of them had a proud side and would not easily show their softness and vulnerability to others.
That was why he had sighed.
But unexpectedly, just as his voice fell, he heard Shoko Ieiri beside him make the same sound. The two of them exchanged surprised looks.
Unfortunately, after he gave her a knowing smile, Shoko turned away. He felt slightly regretful, but did not dwell on it and instead looked back toward the field.
Perhaps because they had both realized that fighting in jackets was inconvenient, the two opponents had already tossed their school uniform jackets aside, revealing their shirt-clad upper bodies.
A quick note: when engaging in close-quarters combat, it was indeed best not to wear open-front jackets or hoodies. It was too easy for the other person to grab your clothes and hinder your movements.
After Yaga Masamichi gave the order once more, the two charged at each other without hesitation, and then the scene became... somewhat peculiar.
Geto Suguru launched the first attack. He lowered his stance, twisted his waist, and drove his fist toward Gojo Satoru's face with a sharp rush of wind.
It sounded powerful, but it was merely a simple, ordinary straight punch.
Under the observation and analysis of Gojo Satoru's Six Eyes, the trajectory of such an attack was naturally easy to catch. He smoothly turned aside without any pressure and returned it with an equally forceful straight punch.
As he threw the punch, he even imagined the startled expression that would appear on the other's face after being hit.
But Geto Suguru had subdued quite a few cursed spirits on his own and had trained up some reaction speed. Though cold sweat poured down his back at this antelope-horn-like strike, he still instinctively blocked it with his arm before making a somewhat subtle remark.
"That was weak."
Gojo Satoru's smile froze. He knew that he had not put his strength into that punch properly, but how could he possibly admit it?
"Hah? You dare say I'm weak? Take this!"
Although it was a close call, Geto Suguru still sidestepped and dodged the punch.
"I dodge!"
And so, the two fell into a situation where one attacked while the other dodged, then the roles reversed.
Watching the scene that resembled an ordinary high school brawl, Toho Che could no longer hold it in and wore the same expression as Mighty King trying to suppress laughter.
He felt that if there were a camera or something here to record this, it would definitely be entertaining to show it to Itadori and the others more than ten years later.
Shoko Ieiri seemingly had not expected this either. Though she lowered her head, her shoulders began to tremble slightly.
Not far away, Yaga Masamichi watched the two with a face full of dark lines, already beginning to consider how he should train their hand-to-hand combat skills.
But no matter what, in a certain sense, the two were indeed "fighting fiercely."
Thanks to the advantage of the Six Eyes, Gojo Satoru was rarely hit. Whenever facing an attack, he could always narrowly evade it before launching a counterattack.
But because he had never learned proper methods of exerting force or hand-to-hand combat, his punches were always straightforward and lacked any real threat.
The Six Eyes could allow him to predict attacks, but they could not evade for him.
Thus, although he managed to land a few lucky hits on Geto Suguru's chest and arms, his own distorted movements also caused him to be struck twice.
"Gojo Satoru, five points. Geto Suguru, two points."
Hearing that he was behind, Geto Suguru took the initiative to pull back and began analyzing the fight. He realized that Gojo Satoru could always narrowly avoid his attacks, causing him to waste a great deal of stamina for nothing.
So, he had to find a way to close the gap. He needed to make an attack that could not be avoided with the Six Eyes.
With that thought, he gritted his teeth and lunged at Gojo Satoru. But midway, he suddenly lowered himself and used his momentum to sweep out a low kick.
Gojo Satoru had already seen through his intent with the Six Eyes, so he jumped straight up without hesitation and easily avoided it.
But before he could show a mocking smile, Geto Suguru twisted his body again, apparently intending to use the momentum to throw out another sweeping kick.
According to the Six Eyes' analysis, with no foothold in the air, he would land right in the path of the sweep and lose his balance, falling to the ground.
He refused to accept that outcome, so he tried to forcibly twist his body in midair and land in the open space beside him.
But Geto Suguru's movements had also become somewhat distorted and uncontrollable due to his poor control. Like a spinning top, he crashed toward where Gojo Satoru was about to land.
Then the two collided directly, lost their balance, and rolled to the ground in an extremely undignified manner.
Seeing this, Shoko Ieiri finally could not hold back and laughed softly. The moment she sensed someone's gaze turn toward her, she immediately looked away, though her shoulders continued to shake.
After withdrawing his gaze, Toho Che found the two wrestling on the ground equally amusing.
He had previously guessed that they might not have undergone hand-to-hand combat training at this stage, so they probably would not be able to fight very well. But he had not expected them to fight so... entertainingly.
Even on the ground, neither gave up on scoring points off the other. Gojo Satoru grabbed Geto Suguru's clothes and pulled him to the side, while Geto Suguru took the opportunity to throw a heavy punch, only for it to be narrowly evaded.
Their scores gradually rose through this process, until Yaga Masamichi, whose face had already gone black beyond belief, called out the final result.
"Gojo Satoru, ten points. Geto Suguru, eight points. The second round is over. Gojo Satoru wins!"
Hearing the result announced, Gojo Satoru, who had climbed up from the ground in a miserable state, proudly raised his hand as though he had won a great battle.
That was, provided one ignored his dust-covered shirt and the slightly misshapen cuff where a button had been torn off.
At this moment, Geto Suguru also stood up with a dark expression and complained in a distinctly displeased, somewhat subtle tone.
"If it weren't for those eyes of yours, I would have won long ago."
Gojo Satoru did not take that accusation to heart at all and merely said in a teasing tone.
"See? I told you little tricks are useless. Only true strength is real!"
Hearing that, Geto Suguru's face darkened even further, but he said nothing and merely straightened his rumpled sleeve.
Looking at his dark expression, Gojo Satoru felt heartfelt joy and excitement—then froze.
As the young master of the Gojo Clan, he had just fought and roughhoused with someone without holding anything back, arguing and bickering along the way. This feeling... this feeling... was actually pretty nice!
Seeing him stare blankly into space, Geto Suguru's dislike for him faded considerably.
Because through those two fights, he had realized that this so-called strongest genius also had things he did not understand. At certain times, he even showed a childish side.
Perhaps... the things he had said earlier had not truly come from his heart and were merely childish behavior?
With that thought, their gazes collided, and each saw that trace of complicated emotion in the other's eyes.
But the next second, Yaga Masamichi interrupted their exchange.
"The sparring result is a 1–1 draw. But honestly, after watching the two of you fight hand-to-hand, I really feel like I need to wash my eyes.
If you refuse to practice hand-to-hand combat in the future and go on missions at this level, do not ever say you are students of Jujutsu High. I cannot afford that embarrassment."
Hearing those merciless words, the two, who had just been looking at each other, could not help turning their heads away at the same time, their expressions somewhat awkward.
Geto Suguru was better off. He knew his performance in this area had indeed not been very good, and he quietly resolved to find a way to train extra after returning.
Gojo Satoru, however, lowered his voice and complained.
"I mean, we have not trained at all before this, so isn't it normal to perform like that? We'll definitely be much stronger than we are now in the future."
After what happened today, he too decided that he would properly train his hand-to-hand fighting after returning. At the very least, he could not be as miserable as he had been today.
But upon hearing him, Yaga Masamichi merely gave the two a disappointed look before shifting his gaze toward someone at the edge of the field.
When Toho Che noticed that gaze turn toward him, he froze, a faint sense of foreboding rising in his heart.
