Background / History

After finishing work and speaking with an online acquaintance, Tetsu suddenly awakens in a Tokyo subway station with a younger body. He is targeted by a humanoid Grade 2 cursed spirit that ordinary commuters cannot see, leading him to realize that he has entered the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. He survives by evading the curse until Utahime Iori reaches him and gives him battlefield guidance. 1 2

Despite having no prior training, Tetsu learns to draw on cursed energy during the battle and instinctively lands a Black Flash, exorcising the curse. He wakes in Tokyo Jujutsu High’s infirmary, where Yaga Masamichi and the higher-ups question his unexplained appearance, enormous cursed-energy reserves, and lack of any official identity records. 3 4 6

Tetsu truthfully agrees to accept Jujutsu High’s supervision and join the school so that he can become strong enough to survive in the dangerous jujutsu world. The higher-ups place him under probation, fabricate a cover identity as the last descendant of an isolated imported branch of the Dongfang Clan, and assign Utahime and Mei Mei as his supervisors and instructors. 7 8

Under Utahime’s instruction, he rapidly masters cursed-energy control and barrier fundamentals. Mei Mei then oversees practical training in Jujutsu High’s back mountain, where he learns curse analysis, core targeting, controlled reinforcement, and combat use of cursed tools. 13 15 17 19

Following multiple low-grade missions, his final evaluation mission at an abandoned Nerima hospital, and a growing record of Grade 2 and Grade 3 exorcisms, Tetsu passes Jujutsu High’s assessment and becomes an official student.
