Ch. 161Ding! Go provoke the Heavenly Tribulation
Key plot points and events
- Xiao Meng completes the fusion of his Divine Palace with his body and enters the Divine Transformation Realm. His Heavenly Tribulation intensifies, however, and blood-red lightning immediately attacks him.
- He survives the first bolt by trapping it with the Great Buddha Pagoda Art and Thunder Emperor Treasure Art, then burning it away with primordial origin flame. When the tribulation produces two lightning dragons, he destroys one and devours part of the other with the Heaven-Devouring Demon Art.
- A swarm of lightning beasts follows. Xiao Meng deploys numerous formations, defenses, and techniques, while refining the lightning he swallows to strengthen his cultivation. He reaches the peak of the early Divine Transformation stage and breaks into its middle stage.
- The system tells him to bind the Taiyi True Water Pool using a drop of heart’s blood, then orders him to provoke the tribulation. Though terrified, Xiao Meng insults the heavens until the lightning grows more than thirty times stronger.
- A mountain-sized blood-red dragon attacks. Xiao Meng throws every resource at it—formations, treasures, techniques, pills, primordial flame, and a purple-gold dragon puppet formed from Zhukun’s scale. After these defenses fail, he strikes the dragon with the Heaven-Collapsing Crash, severely injuring it but leaving it alive.
- Exhausted, badly wounded, and nearly out of energy, Xiao Meng faces the surviving dragon as it dives in to finish him. He calls on the system for help, and it only tells him to remain calm.
Character developments and interactions
- Xiao Meng advances significantly in cultivation but is pushed to the brink physically and emotionally. His usual brash humor and defiance become desperate survival tactics; even so, he keeps improvising and refuses to surrender.
- Xiao Xuan watches in growing astonishment, repeatedly marveling at Xiao Meng’s techniques and formations. He is especially baffled by Xiao Meng’s decision to taunt the tribulation.
- The system directs Xiao Meng to bind the pool and provoke the tribulation but gives no explanation, then offers only a vague reassurance when he is on the verge of death.
- Xiao Meng’s relationship with the Heavenly Tribulation is portrayed as a furious, absurdly one-sided confrontation: he curses and challenges it, while it answers with increasingly lethal attacks.
