"Splash~" "splash~" "splash~" Three sounds of breaking the surface rang out.
Wu Wanghai then poked his head out of the water and floated to the surface.
Damn, everyone in Fontaine could swim, and everyone could burst out of the water like that, huh?
"Here I come!"
"Slap slap~" The sound of water being slapped.
"I really want to learn Fontaine's version of surfacing." Wu Wanghai panted after climbing ashore.
"We actually have the perfect coach here. He can teach you. Of course, he won't charge you Mora—we can just be friends." Lyney kindly recommended a swimming instructor to Wu Wanghai.
"You mean Freminet, right?" Wu Wanghai immediately guessed who he meant.
Lyney was somewhat surprised. Wasn't this man from outside the Star Sea World? They had already confirmed that he wasn't from Teyvat, yet he seemed to know so many people in Teyvat.
"Oh, I didn't expect you to know him too. It feels like you know everything and know so many people. I'm really starting to get curious about you~"
Wu Wanghai laughed. "Is that so~? If you give Lynette to me, I'll be very grateful to you, brother-in-law. I can secretly share lots of this world's secrets with you. I can even spoil some future events for you."
Lyney instantly stopped and stared at Wu Wanghai, shielding Lynette behind him. "So you really are after Lynette!"
Then Lyney glanced at the black-robed Furina beside them. "Your 'Hydro Archon wife' is still right here, you know."
"Who said I'm his wife?!" Furina immediately stomped her foot in exasperation. She had been peacefully standing by and watching the show, yet somehow she had been dragged into it.
"Oh dear, the sis-con got mad." Wu Wanghai covered his mouth with his left hand. "Don't worry, I'm wholeheartedly devoted to Furina!"
"Come on, let's be friends." Wu Wanghai held out his hand to Lyney.
Lyney shook his head. "I suddenly regret it. I don't make friends with people who have designs on Lynette."
Lyney added, not particularly angry, "Now it'll cost you one hundred thousand Mora to learn."
So he just wasn't going to let him freeload anymore, huh?
"That the normal price?" Wu Wanghai asked.
"Two hundred thousand now."
"Fine then. Lynette's worth two hundred thousand?"
"#" Lyney clenched his bow and fired a flaming arrow at the Hilichurls sunbathing ahead. "We refuse to teach you. That's what I said."
"When you're gone, I'll secretly ask Lynette to teach me at night." Wu Wanghai moved to Lynette's other side.
"..." Lynette remained silent, already in standby mode.
Lyney felt the veins on his forehead throb.
Wu Wanghai noticed that Lynette had barely spoken to him since Lyney appeared. After thinking for a moment, he suddenly recalled something Lyney had said in the game. "Lynette, activate chat mode."
Wu Wanghai hadn't expected that one sentence to really make Lynette speak. "Your authorization level is insufficient. Lynette refuses to speak with you."
Well, this guy even knew that. He had never told anyone about it, and Freminet certainly couldn't have told a stranger.
"I get it. You're trying to provoke me because you want to spar with me, right?" Lyney suddenly stopped walking.
Wu Wanghai threw an arm around Lyney's shoulders. "Fine! I'll give it a try! If I beat you, Lynette is mine!"
"No! Problem!" Lyney gritted his teeth.
"A three-year agreement, how about it?" Wu Wanghai picked up his giant water ball.
"No. Right now!"
"Ow... you're killing me..." Wu Wanghai's miserable voice sounded from behind the three of them.
Lyney had actually gone all out. Wu Wanghai had only made a few casual jokes. And Lyney was only level 20—not even as strong as that level 59 monster from before. They had been trading scratches anyway, and there was only a ten-level gap between them.
"An archer who can fight in close quarters too? I was careless this time. I didn't dodge." Wu Wanghai muttered from behind, his entire body aching.
"Wait for me, Lynette! Once I defeat Lyney, you'll be mine!" Wu Wanghai shouted defiantly despite his defeat.
Lyney turned around, and then...
"Hey, hey, hey! Dad, stop hitting me! Your son was wrong!" Lyney finally stopped attacking only after Wu Wanghai called him Dad and claimed to be his son, making Lyney unable to take it anymore.
"Haha, serves you right. Go ahead and acknowledge a dad." Furina felt much better watching Lyney beat Wu Wanghai up. He deserved it for randomly calling her his wife earlier.
"Psh, what's the big deal? Once I'm stronger than him, I'll be his grandpa!" Wu Wanghai whispered into Furina's ear this time.
"Grandpa! Grandpa!!"
The moment Wu Wanghai finished speaking to Furina, he realized someone was repeating the last two words he had said: grandpa.
Wu Wanghai looked over and saw a Hydro Hilichurl Ranger holding a scythe not far away.
It stood over six feet tall, with muscular arms, two horns, and a cape draped over its shoulders.
Wu Wanghai suddenly regretted his earlier decision not to capture Hilichurls. Now he felt that he could capture a Ranger from among them too.
"What a surprise!" Lyney suddenly spoke and began attacking the monster.
"Hold it right there! Don't give me any more surprises! Let go of that Ranger! Let me capture it!" Wu Wanghai summoned a water ball and hurled it out as well.
"Capture failed. Capture failed... failed."
Wu Wanghai was no longer just in physical pain. Now his heart hurt too.
What was going on? Wu Wanghai smacked the Hydro Hilichurl Ranger hard across the face, then tried to capture it again. It still displayed capture failed.
"Contract! Activate!" Wu Wanghai tried forming a contract instead.
"Target does not meet the minimum intelligence requirement."
Wu Wanghai looked at the Ranger before him. Its level wasn't high, only level 12, but its health bar was quite thick and was still at ninety percent.
He remembered a certain mechanic. "Give it a surprise, Lyney."
Annoyed at having his attack interrupted, and wanting to personally witness what Lynette had just said about Wu Wanghai being able to control monsters, Lyney went on strike. "Fight it yourself. Aren't you trying to capture it?"
With Lyney on strike, Wu Wanghai looked at the other one instead. "Help me, kitty fairy, Lynette!"
"Kitty fairy, no response." Lynette spoke, but it was practically the same as saying nothing.
Wu Wanghai silently looked at Furina, then activated his ultimate.
Just now, Wu Wanghai had discovered something that differed from the game. His ultimate energy would slowly increase even when he was being hit.
His previously empty ultimate had somehow been filled.
Wu Wanghai felt that the Hydro Hilichurl Ranger took damage differently from ordinary Hilichurls. Maybe its high health, combined with Hydro damage lowering its resistance to some extent, was the reason. After all, it could control the Hydro element too.
"Grandpa!" The Hydro Hilichurl Ranger cried out miserably.
"Grandson, your grandpa is right here. Do you submit? Do you submit?" Wu Wanghai pinned it to the ground and began repeatedly slapping the Ranger across the face.
Perhaps its health had also dropped a little from the slaps. In any case, Wu Wanghai finally captured it successfully.
"Haha, it really was related to health. It only worked after I slapped it down to ten health." Wu Wanghai was delighted to have captured a monster. Still, he hadn't expected the skill not to mention capture probability at all. He had thought every capture would succeed in one try.
Or perhaps this counted as an elite monster, so it was harder to capture. That was probably it. After all, the few monsters Wu Wanghai had captured before were all ordinary ones.
Wu Wanghai controlled the Hydro Hilichurl Ranger and made it stand up. Then he had it follow behind him as he walked over to the three of them.
Lyney stared in shock at the Ranger, which obediently followed orders. This was information worth reporting.
"What are health and ten health?" Furina wasn't too surprised to see Wu Wanghai successfully capture it, but she didn't understand the terms he had used.
"It's like I have an eye that records data. It can display the status of monsters. Health is their life condition. When health reaches zero, they die."
"I understand." Furina nodded. "Then how much health do I have?"
"None. None of you have any." Wu Wanghai shook his head. That was strange. They didn't display health bars, so he couldn't kill them.
Wu Wanghai had discovered the problem during his fight with Lyney. Lyney hadn't displayed a health bar.
