| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mangekyō Sharingan and first-stage Susanoo — Fugaku and Itachi | 18 | Fugaku reveals a Mangekyō awakened years earlier. Recently awakened Itachi learns Susanoo from him during their staged confrontation. Both suffer severe exhaustion. |
| Second-stage Susanoo — Itachi | 35 | Constructs a fleshed-out Susanoo to overpower Manda; the technique drains both chakra and ocular power. |
| Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan — Natsuki | 85 | Confirmed to possess the Eternal Mangekyō already; its ocular power and his additional Uzumaki chakra support prolonged use of skeletal Susanoo. |
| Mangekyō Sharingan — Keimei | 119 | Awakens during the clan’s confrontation with Obito and helps save Fugaku. |
| Armored Susanoo — Itachi | 272 | Manifests a half-body Susanoo wearing Tengu Armor and brings out the Totsuka Blade; excessive use exhausts his ocular power. |

| Second-stage Mangekyō — Itachi; third-stage Mangekyō — Natsuki | 930 | Natsuki explains the ranked evolution of Mangekyō to Sasuke and identifies their respective stages. |
| Perfect Susanoo — Itachi; Eternal Mangekyō — Yōya | 989 993 | Both are confirmed during the Tailed Beast battle. Yōya remains less practiced at Susanoo control despite his eye level. |
| Third-stage Mangekyō — Sasuke | 1090 | Advances through repeated transfers of Natsuki’s ocular power from Itachi and Yōya. |
| Fourth-stage Mangekyō, “Dominator Level” — Natsuki | 1090 | Reveals a more intricate eye pattern. Further advancement for other members requires stronger bodies. |
| Thirteen Mangekyō experts; four third-stage users besides Natsuki | 1110 | Natsuki reports the expanded clan’s strength. Resurrected Izuna possesses third-stage Mangekyō rather than the first-stage eyes he had before death. |

Background / History
Founding Konoha and political exclusion
The Uchiha and Senju jointly founded Konoha through Madara’s alliance with Hashirama Senju. Natsuki later describes the clan’s original purpose as obtaining stability and peace after the Warring States period 344 360 857.
Tobirama established the Konoha Military Police Force and entrusted it to the Uchiha. The clan initially regarded this as an exceptional honor; Fugaku later acknowledges that the arrangement also excluded them from Konoha’s upper leadership and marginalized them politically 137.
Police work worsened relations with villagers and influential merchants. Uchiha officers frequently encountered people who invoked connections to other clans, while some emotionally charged officers answered disputes with violence rather than compromise 1 11.
The Nine-Tails accusations
During the Nine-Tails’ Rampage, Konoha ordered the Uchiha to protect and evacuate noncombatants instead of fighting the beast. Their Sharingan’s capacity to control Tailed Beasts nevertheless made them immediate suspects 142.
Afterward, Danzō pushed the Police Force into a remote district, erected surveillance towers around the clan, and spread hostile rumors. Accusations that the Uchiha had either done nothing or caused the attack intensified resentment and helped lay the groundwork for rebellion 142.
Natsuki’s intervention and partial withdrawal
Natsuki intervened in the crisis surrounding Shisui and confronted Konoha’s leadership over Danzō’s seizure of his Sharingan. Rather than allowing an immediate rebellion, he used the possibility of one as leverage to force the issue into the open 3 4.
The clan’s withdrawal from police duties exposed how difficult their work had been. Suspended officers who had previously been disliked found shopkeepers asking them to return, demonstrating the clan’s value to public order 12 16.
Fugaku and Itachi then staged a Susanoo battle that destroyed much of the compound. More than one hundred shinobi—approximately half the clan’s combat strength—left with Itachi, while nearly a thousand civilians and their families initially remained behind. The departure was approved without formally declaring the travelers rogue ninja 18 19 20.
The departing Uchiha helped fill Otogakure’s manpower shortage. Third Elder Takuya took over administrative duties, while Itachi and Shisui cooperated with Orochimaru’s research 36.
Clearing the clan’s name and Natsuki’s succession
The clan publicly identified Obito as the perpetrator of the Nine-Tails’ Rampage, expelled him from its registry, and placed a permanent kill order and a 300-million-ryō bounty on him 146 147.
Tsunade’s intervention prompted Konoha to issue a notice clearing the clan of responsibility for the attack. Some villagers remained skeptical despite the announcement 161.
Natsuki succeeded Fugaku in a ceremony attended by foreign delegations and Konoha’s leadership. Hiruzen apologized publicly for the village’s mistreatment; Fugaku retired because of his injuries and became an elder 185 188. The returning Otogakure contingent subsequently remained with the clan, including Shisui and more than one hundred Uchiha 203.
Independence and relocation
Natsuki proposed full independence at a clan meeting and received unanimous support. He distinguished the clan’s existing physical separation from the formal break still needed to establish its own state 360.
The clan announced its departure on grounds of unfair treatment. Konoha approved the move but imposed a business tax, while Sunagakure, Iwagakure, and Kumogakure publicly announced alliances with the Uchiha 383.
More than two thousand members departed in the relocation procession, although a small number remained in Konoha. The travelers later boarded steamships; Yugito noticed that a substantial number of Hyūga were accompanying them 389 435. The clan ultimately established its own country and village under Natsuki 857.
War and later expansion
The Uchiha led the Allied Forces’ advance with a public display of eleven Susanoo. Their concentrated high-level combat strength forced the other Kage to reassess the balance of power 929.
During the war, Itachi prioritized protecting clansmen when Natsuki was absent. The clan’s Susanoo blocked the Ten-Tails’ attacks and later fought the released Tailed Beasts directly, supported by injections that replenished ocular power 951 989 992 993.
Afterward, Itachi managed clan affairs while Natsuki concentrated on research and further development. By the time Izuna was resurrected, the clan had grown to more than four thousand members and thirteen Mangekyō experts 1090 1110.
Organization and Economy
Leadership and civilian membership
- Clan head and elders: Fugaku’s retirement transfers leadership to Natsuki without removing Fugaku from clan governance. Takuya and Yohei also hold senior positions 19 188.
- Acting leadership: Itachi takes command when Natsuki is absent and later regularly reports on training and research as acting clan head 966 1090.
- Earlier factions: Hawk and Dove factions differ over the clan’s response to Konoha. Most of the first departing combat contingent comes from the Hawk faction 19 151.
- Civilian population: Many Uchiha have no ninjutsu aptitude and never awaken Sharingan. They remain recognized members of the clan rather than being defined solely by combat ability 12 360.
- Marriage practices: The clan gives priority to marriages involving its own civilian members because their children have a greater probability of ninja aptitude and Sharingan potential 360.
Commercial independence
- Yachimata shops: Uchiha civilians operate much of the district’s small-shop economy 16.
- Snack Street: Food businesses move into the clan compound, drawing customers with transportation, membership cards, and discounts 90.
- Private missions: A separate mission system reduces dependence on Konoha’s mission hall and its revenue-sharing rules 90 96.
- Member support: The clan regularly distributes money and provides generous family subsidies, allowing members to stop relying on dangerous missions for income 95 96.
- Political investment: Natsuki offers practical combat instruction and financial support to other clans. Proposed investments include the Nara Deer Park and Akimichi secret-medicine development 296 297.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan
Sharingan evolves through special chakra produced in response to heightened spiritual and emotional activity. Mangekyō awakening can arise from hatred or from romantic, familial, friendly, and clan-centered love 33 832.
- Progression runs from One Tomoe through Three Tomoe to Mangekyō; Mangekyō itself has multiple ranked stages 930 1090.
- Individual bloodlines and needs produce different ocular abilities, rather than a uniform set of powers 930 1015.
- Three Tomoe is the natural limit for many members. Excessive stimulation of those without sufficient potential can cause mental collapse 571.
- Natsuki uses aptitude information and detailed awakening records to select candidates rather than forcing every member to advance 571 704.
- Sharingan can control Tailed Beasts, an ability that contributed to Konoha’s fear of the clan 142.
Genjutsu and engineered awakenings
The clan develops genjutsu into both a combat weapon and a controlled training environment.
- Tsukuyomi: Itachi uses it for combat, simulated battle experience, and carefully tailored emotional stimulation 20 336 884.
- Kotoamatsukami: Shisui alters Orochimaru’s will, enabling the research partnership that follows 35.
- The Rumbling Plan: Natsuki assigns Itachi, Shisui, and Keimei to construct personalized Tsukuyomi worlds for selected Mangekyō candidates 832 884.
- Training limitation: The first immersive experience provides the strongest stimulation; later sessions are more useful for practice once participants recognize the illusion 336.
- Senjutsu enhancement: Shisui’s Sage Mode strengthens his genjutsu enough to interfere briefly with Gyūki inside Killer B 765.
Susanoo
Susanoo is the clan’s signature chakra construct, called the “Power of the Gods.” Its mastery is commonly used to judge strength among Uchiha 18 967 1015.
- Forms develop from a skeletal frame through flesh and armor to the enormous Perfect Susanoo 35 705.
- Users deploy it for battlefield assaults, ranged attacks, protection, and mass defense 929 989 993.
- Weapons vary by user, including swords, bows, chains, and Itachi’s innate divine artifacts 993.
- Stable Perfect Susanoo requires enormous chakra, ocular power, and control; sufficient reserves alone do not guarantee mastery 275.
- Maintaining it consumes substantial concentration, making simultaneous use of other ninjutsu difficult for ordinary users 105.
- Even advanced Susanoo remains vulnerable to exceptional opponents and techniques 558 994.
Ocular-power restoration and transfer
The clan combines medical research with Natsuki’s ocular abilities to address Mangekyō’s limitations.
- Progressive damage: Repeated Mangekyō use can irreversibly impair eyesight; Susanoo rapidly consumes chakra and ocular power 18 35.
- Cloning and eye fusion: Orochimaru restores Fugaku’s sight and completes Itachi’s Eternal Mangekyō evolution 334.
- Yang Release injections: Restore some Sharingan damage and keep ocular power abundant temporarily, enabling extended Susanoo combat 992.
- Protective training support: Human Sage Art restores mental energy, while Keimei’s God Protection helps guard candidates against excessive stimulation 705.
- Ocular-power sharing: Natsuki’s transferable power allows Itachi and Yōya to help advance Sasuke and later support Kazuki’s developing eyes 1035 1090 1155.
- Physical ceiling: Advancement beyond third-stage Mangekyō requires the user’s body to evolve sufficiently to bear the power 1090.
Fire Release and advanced combat
- Natsuki and Madara use matching Great Fire Annihilation attacks to contest their strength as Uchiha 957.
- Itachi and Sasuke coordinate Amaterasu against regenerating Ōtsutsuki opponents 1159.
- Advanced fighters employ compressed War God Susanoo Armor, but its chakra and ocular-power costs restrict sustained use 1075 1200.
- Natsuki, Itachi, and Yōya combine ocular power with Minato’s Nine-Tails chakra to form the Armored Sage Super Shadow Nine-Tails Sword against Kaguya 1023.
Notable Susanoo Users
The eleven Susanoo deployed against the Tailed Beasts have distinct colors 993.
| Member | Susanoo Color | Distinguishing Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Itachi | Orange-red | Perfect Susanoo; Yata Mirror and Totsuka Blade 272 993. |
| Shisui | Emerald green | Spiral Sword and ranged attacks 993. |
| Sasuke | Purple | Bow-and-arrow armament 993. |
| Yōya | Silver-white | Eternal Mangekyō user with comparatively limited Susanoo-control practice 993. |
| Kazuki | Warm yellow | One of the seven selected Mangekyō candidates 881 884 993. |
| Katsura | Gray | Chains capable of restraining the Five-Tails 993. |
| Daichi | Earth brown | Both ocular techniques benefit Susanoo: one strengthens it, the other reduces consumption 993. |
| Oura | Azure blue | Awakens before his scripted Tsukuyomi story reaches its midpoint 884 993. |
| Haruki | Pure black | Also breaks out of Tsukuyomi early through successful awakening 884 993. |
| Rikuto | Purple-black | Participates in the collective Tailed Beast battle 992 993. |
| Akira | Stone blue | A right-eye ability detects Obito as he emerges from Kamui 987 993. |
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Succession fan: Natsuki receives a replica of the clan’s fan during his inauguration 188.
- Defensive barriers: The compound can activate a large-area barrier costing tens of millions; separate training barriers conceal Susanoo by distorting vision and blocking sound 122 449.
- Underground laboratory: Houses clan research and experiments under Keimei and the wider Orochimaru partnership 334.
- Yang Release injections: Battlefield supplies used to replenish ocular power and permit sustained Susanoo training against Tailed Beasts 992.
- Awakening records: Detailed files track members’ ages at One-, Two-, and Three-Tomoe advancement to help assess Mangekyō potential 704.
