Background / History

Gengetsu died before the main conflict, leaving behind remains that Tobi infiltrated Kirigakure to steal. Dionysus used one of Gengetsu's palm bones and a living sacrifice to reanimate him under Impure World Reincarnation; the control seal initially prevented him from speaking or acting freely 746.

As the leader of the Misty Hidden Edo Tensei Army, Gengetsu advanced against the Allied Forces alongside Hozuki Mangetsu and several deceased Seven Ninja Swordsmen. He resented being forced to fight for the enemy and was especially distressed at the prospect of fighting Kirigakure shinobi 948 950.

Natsuki used the Spirit Transformation Technique to possess Gengetsu, exploit the Edo Tensei's control backdoor, and remove Dionysus' command over him. Gengetsu retained his reanimated body and its infinite chakra while regaining his autonomy, then immediately turned his Giant Clam's genjutsu against the remaining Mist reanimations 950.

After joining the southern front, Gengetsu used mirages to cover the Allied Forces' withdrawal and fought the Poison White Zetsu. His reanimated body was destroyed by Hibaku's Natural Energy explosion, but he later returned and was ultimately restored to life alongside several other Edo Tensei shinobi 954 962 1028. Natsuki subsequently recruited him and gained the Boiling Danger technique from the alteration of his fate 1043.

Personality

Gengetsu is outspoken and talkative, complaining openly about the indignity of reanimation while remaining perceptive enough to detect Natsuki's invisible Spirit Transformation body 948 949. His hostility is directed at being controlled rather than at the Allied Forces; once freed, he readily assists them against the enemy 950.

He displays a softer, clan-oriented side toward younger Hozuki. Learning that Mangetsu was the grandson of a Hozuki clansman immediately changes his demeanor, and he later guides Suigetsu and Mangetsu in developing their bloodline abilities 948 1064.
