"Thank you," Lynn said to Field, this time with a trace of sincerity.
"Hehe, no big deal!"
Field waved a hand dashing, then turned his sparkling eyes toward Gregor.
"Mentor! It's done! About that Soul-Eroding Grass Extract..."
Gregor waved impatiently as if shooing flies. "Go get it yourself! Don't come bother me again!"
"Yes, sir!"
Field cheered and rushed toward the materials cabinet. He carefully took the portion he needed, winked at Lynn, and slipped out of the laboratory in high spirits.
The reward for this task would be enough for him to live it up for quite a while.
Advancement? How could that compare to chasing girls? The female apprentices at this Academy each had their own unique charms.
The flowers were blooming beautifully right now. If I didn't pick them, wouldn't that make me seem utterly lacking in romance...?
Watching this flirtatious "senior brother" leave so freely, Lynn somehow felt a hint of envy.
Field had been born in the wrong place. If he were thrown into the Acacia Sect, he would surely become a great master who had entered the Dao through femininity.
Someday, I should develop some "dual cultivation Wizardry" for him. That would do justice to his talent.
Looking at his own "masterpiece," Lynn stepped forward and draped a wide black robe over it to conceal its body.
In the next couple of days, he would take it around the Apprentice Market and equip it with weapons and armor. If he happened across a cheap mount, he could get one of those too.
Unfortunately, he only had two Magic Stones left, and his pay as a "research assistant" would not arrive until the end of the month.
Money, money, money!
He still needed to find some extra income. Otherwise, one hundred Contribution Points a month would be enough for nothing.
But the meager Contribution Points apprentices earned from doing tasks did not interest him either.
After steadying himself, Lynn began engraving the imprint.
Before long, under the guidance of Analysis, he successfully branded the Death Knight with a Mental Imprint.
Hmm... it should be called a Death Warrior now. After all, what knight didn't have a horse?
Since it was only a temporary stopgap, Lynn did not waste any brainpower and simply named this Death Knight "Death Knight."
At present, Lynn could only control one Undead servant at a time. If he controlled Death Knight, he would no longer be able to control Wu Liuqi.
Death Knight had been personally crafted by Lynn. During its creation, Lynn had left a permanent spiritual seed in its core to make controlling it easier.
This method ensured that Death Knight would not rebel while also reducing the difficulty of Lynn's control and extending the duration of his command.
Currently, Lynn could control Death Knight in continuous combat for roughly half an hour, after which he needed to renew its Mental Imprint.
If he failed to renew it after half an hour, Death Knight would enter an autonomous state and carry out Lynn's final command.
However, with the control brand engraved in its core, it would not attack Lynn because of this.
Lynn commanded Death Knight to walk to the door of the partitioned room and stand guard like a statue.
With this thing guarding the place, Lynn felt completely safe.
The only problem was that it was a little too large. His Bone Ring simply could not fit it inside.
He couldn't have it following behind him all the time, could he?
Actually, having it follow him around wasn't impossible. Quite a few people in the Academy had Undead guards trailing behind them. Come to think of it, that was pretty cool...
At that moment, Gregor interrupted Lynn's thoughts.
"Alright, the Undead has been refined. It's time to get your mind back on track."
"You two senior and junior brothers spent several days making something like this. What a waste of time..."
"If I hadn't wanted you to get more practice, I could have made this thing for you in minutes."
Clearly, Gregor was not very satisfied with Death Knight.
After all, it was merely a low-end Undead. In his eyes, it was not much different from the wandering Undead outside and was not worth his attention at all.
Lynn chuckled without arguing.
"If Mentor took action, it would naturally be extraordinary. At the very least, it would be Wizard-level."
"Unfortunately, this student is too weak to command an Undead that is too powerful. This 'defective product' is just right for now."
Lynn lavishly flattered his mentor.
A little well-timed flattery helped improve the relationship between master and student. After using so many laboratory materials, a few nice words were only fair.
Besides... hadn't everyone started out this way?
Gregor snorted coldly, unmoved.
"Stop always looking so full of yourself, and put your mind properly into your studies!"
"Your horizons and accumulation of knowledge are still far too shallow. You know what many things are, but not why they are so."
"As a Wizard, you should always keep a humble, eager-to-learn heart. Don't be like Field, so unreliable all day long. It has been two years, and he is still only a Second-Class Apprentice..."
Lynn's expression turned solemn, and the frivolity vanished from his face.
With top-tier talent and the help of his "cheat," he really had become somewhat carried away lately.
As a "transmigrator," he also felt a certain superiority toward these "natives" of another world, always thinking, Everyone else is drunk while I alone am sober.
That arrogant mindset could easily cause him to stumble.
Wizards were a group with "high IQs." Every Wizard possessed an enormous amount of knowledge.
His little bit of talent was nothing special in the eyes of true Wizards. They had seen far too many "geniuses" who thought themselves exceptional.
Yet very few of those "geniuses" ever truly grew up.
Especially in this Academy of Dark Wizards.
Lynn bowed deeply to Gregor, showing that he had taken the lesson to heart.
Gregor waved a hand and ignored him again.
After being cooped up in the laboratory for several days, Lynn headed outside to get some air.
Death Knight followed close behind him.
Since he did not know whether Kevin had any close friends or sworn brothers while alive, Lynn had simply ruined his face during the refining process to avoid trouble.
Now it wore a rotting face, its eyes fixed straight on Lynn's back as though considering where to strike.
Lynn did not feel much about it. With the Mental Imprint in place, this thing could not possibly murder its master.
When the apprentices on the road saw an Undead radiating dense deathly energy walking through the Academy, they all hurriedly moved aside.
They feared that its owner might lose control and cause a massacre.
Such incidents were not uncommon within the Academy. Every Undead creature was influenced by negative emotions, especially resentful spirits. The heavier their resentment had been in life, the stronger they became.
To create a powerful vengeful spirit, many Dark Wizards used every possible method to torture the original owner while they were still alive.
Wiping out an entire family was considered routine. Wizards usually cast Wizardry that amplified pain on the original owner, forcing them to watch helplessly as their beloved family members were tortured to death before their eyes.
The original owner could only howl in powerless rage, eventually transforming into the most vicious vengeful spirit under the dual torment of body and mind.
If an apprentice's spiritual power could not suppress such a vicious Undead, it might very well go berserk within the Academy and begin slaughtering everyone in sight.
