As the time drew near, Cersei rose from the viewing platform and slowly walked onto the central dais.
She wore a formal dark-purple wizard's robe today, carrying herself with tremendous authority, without a trace of the casual manner she usually showed around Lynn.
After all, she represented the Academy. When the occasion called for solemnity, she had to be solemn.
She looked around, her clear voice carrying across the entire plaza. "Everyone, we have gathered at Bone Plaza today to witness the appointment of the new chief of the Soul Department."
The plaza fell completely silent, with only the Soul Fire on the bone pillars burning with a low whoosh.
Cersei continued, "The Soul Department is one of Bone Spire's three main branches and has produced countless outstanding talents over the years."
"The previous chief, Marfa, colluded with the enemy, betrayed the Academy, and murdered her fellow members. She has been dealt with according to Academy regulations."
She paused, and her voice grew heavier.
"Lynn killed the traitor in a desperate situation and upheld the Academy's dignity. His strength and deeds are plain for all to see. By resolution of the Vice Tower Masters' council, Lynn shall assume the post of chief instructor of the Soul Department!"
A wave of hushed discussion rose from below the stage, but it soon quieted again.
"Now, please welcome Lynn to the stage," Cersei said.
Lynn rose from the viewing platform and, beneath the gaze of the entire crowd, walked step by step toward the dais.
His pace was unhurried, yet his presence was extraordinary. Every step seemed to land upon everyone's chest.
Lynn stepped onto the dais and stood beside Cersei.
Turning slightly, Cersei announced in a clear voice, "This is the new chief of Bone Spire's Soul Department—Lynn!"
Her voice was amplified
