Kerrigan was a Void Insect Swarm broodmother whose consciousness Ian enslaved through a soul connection. The bond gave Ian access to her thoughts, emotions, and memories while leaving her unable to resist his commands. She initially addressed him as “Father,” but accepted “Master” after he named her Kerrigan. 394

As a mother insect, Kerrigan could command insectoids through a hive hierarchy and convert energy, biomass, and genetic templates into new units.
