Background and History
Yu Chen enrolled at Shrek at age eleven after presenting a valid recommendation letter. His Rank 45 Soul Power and Golden Dragon Martial Soul immediately drew the attention of the admissions staff and Du Weilun, who regarded his potential as unprecedented for the academy 10 11.
Yu Chen’s early combat performances made him widely known throughout the Outer Court. He defeated Xu Sanshi by breaking through the latter’s shield defense bare-handed, then defeated nearly an entire class of students alone with basic physical attacks. These incidents prompted Sea God Pavilion to convene an emergency discussion over how to approach and retain him 21 26 27.
During Di Tian’s beast-tide crisis, Shrek City faced destruction after the Beast God demanded an explanation for the Auspicious Beast’s death. Mu En confronted Di Tian directly, burning his origin and life force to invoke Sea God’s Light; Di Tian ultimately withdrew the beast tide under the Silver Dragon King’s command 43 46.
Four months after the beast tide, Shrek issued a most-wanted notice for Yu Chen, publicly identifying him as a Sun Moon Empire spy. Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, and others did not believe the accusation, while Sun Moon Empire investigations found no indication that Yu Chen had been dispatched as a spy 49 50 66.
Sea God Pavilion
Sea God Pavilion is Shrek’s highest-level decision-making body. Its meetings are attended by the Martial Soul and Soul Guidance Department leadership alongside Consecration Hall elders 111.
During the tournament crisis, the Pavilion rejected Xuan Zi’s request to leave it following his failed Death’s Hand operation. Mu En instead ordered him to remember the defeat and avoid repeating his reckless conduct 112.
Conflict with Yu Chen
- Yu Chen — Former Outer Court student whose exceptional Golden Dragon Martial Soul and strength made him a major prospect for Shrek. The academy later declared him a wanted Sun Moon spy, driving him into open opposition with Shrek 11 27 50.
- Mu En — Regretted Yu Chen’s absence after Shrek’s Main Team was devastated, believing Yu Chen’s Golden Dragon Martial Soul and ultimate-strength attribute might have prevented the disaster 112.
- Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong — Former friends of Yu Chen who remain with Shrek. Their reunion at the tournament makes clear that their paths have diverged and they may meet as opponents 106 108.
- Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineering Academy — Shrek’s principal tournament rival and Yu Chen’s new academy. The two teams are positioned in separate groups, allowing a potential later-stage confrontation 109 117.
Death’s Hand Disaster
Before the Continental Tournament, Xuan Zi led Shrek Inner Court disciples against the Death’s Hand bandit group in the Ming Dou Mountain Range. The operation ended in a catastrophic defeat despite Xuan Zi’s Rank 98 cultivation 110.
| Casualty / Survivor | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Chen Zifeng | Killed by Death’s Messenger’s corpse-explosion ability 110 112 |
| Xi Xi | Killed by Death’s Messenger’s corpse-explosion ability 110 112 |
| Dai Yueheng | Lost an arm 110 |
| Gongyang Mo | Both legs crippled 110 111 |
| Ma Xiaotao | Severely injured and unable to compete 110 112 |
| Ling Luochen | Severely injured and unable to compete 110 112 |
| Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, Xiaoxiao | Unharmed because they remained at camp; subsequently forced into Main Team roles 111 |
| Xuan Zi | Seriously injured; escaped and accepted responsibility for the mission’s failure 110 112 |
Death’s Messenger countered Xuan Zi’s Godly Taotie Bull Martial Soul, controlled corpses, and detonated their Soul Power. Difficult terrain, ambushes, and surprise attacks compounded Shrek’s losses 110 112.
Continental Tournament
Shrek entered the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament as defending champion and the first seed, automatically assigned to Group A during the initial draw 109.
Because its original Main Team was almost entirely unavailable, Shrek fielded an all-reserve lineup of Bei Bei, He Caitou, Xu Sanshi, Jiang Nannan, Xiaoxiao, Huo Yuhao, and Wang Dong 112.
| Opponent | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sky Spirit Advanced Soul Master Academy | Shrek victory | Huo Yuhao used Simulation to create the appearance of six 100,000-year Soul Rings, terrifying Sky Spirit into conceding 113. |
| Qianling Advanced Soul Master Academy | Shrek victory | Shrek fought without relying on simulated Soul Rings and won through coordination and genuine combat ability 115. |
By Chapter 117, Shrek and Sun Moon Academy had both advanced, with Shrek assigned to Group A and Sun Moon assigned to Group B for the subsequent draw 117.
