Nature and Cultivation

Dou Qi is the energy cultivated by practitioners of the Battle Qi Continent. It can strengthen the body, power Dou Techniques, reinforce weapons, and be shaped into external constructs. Its attribute depends on the cultivator and their cultivation art; known examples include ice, fire, poison, wood, earth, gold, and attribute-less Dou Qi. 2 16 103 151

Cultivators gather and refine the energy of heaven and earth into Dou Qi. Cultivation arts determine its circulation, recovery, reserves, attributes, and eventual quality. 6 8 114

Cultivation Arts and Attributes

• A cultivation art integrates its traits into Dou Qi through a rapidly rotating Dou Qi vortex; stronger traits produce stronger Dou Qi but are harder to merge and historically cultivated more slowly. 8
• Replacing a cultivation art is normally possible only from lower grade to higher grade. Replacing a stronger art with a weaker one requires dispersing one’s cultivation and beginning again. 8
• The Heavenly Cycle Art is an all-attribute, evolving cultivation art. It adapts to its wielder’s attributes, has exceptional recovery, can refine foreign energy, and may improve an attribute’s quality through stellar power. 6
• The Burning Incantation evolves by incorporating flames. Its fusion with Beast Flames can alter its circulation route and, in Xiao Yan’s case, led to a loss of control over his Dou Qi. 8 26 27

Body Tempering

Dou Qi is suited to tempering the body. Stronger Dou Qi strengthens the body, while a stronger body in turn accelerates Dou Qi cultivation. 5

Dou Techniques

Dou Qi is the energy source for Dou Techniques, from low-grade martial skills to Earth Grade attacks that draw upon heaven-and-earth energy. 5 36

• Qi Control Art combines Dou Qi with spiritual or soul power to manipulate air and heaven-and-earth energy. 8 9

Advanced users can shape Dou Qi into objects or structures.

Spirit Artifacts and Formations

Spirit Artifacts use Dou Qi to activate inscriptions and resonate with heaven-and-earth energy. 5 18 25

• Spirit Artifact bracelets can adjust users’ Dou Qi fluctuations and connect multiple cultivators’ energy into a defensive formation. 55
• A formation of seven Dou Zhes could resist attacks from a Dou Master by linking their Dou Qi into a unified whole. 55
• Formations may also suppress, drain, or destabilize Dou Qi. A formation used against Chu Yun Empire cultivators caused their activated Dou Qi to slip out of control and rapidly deplete. 32
• Dou Crystal veins can replace spirit liquid in Spirit Artifact forging, providing highly efficient energy transmission. 151

Limitations and Risks

• Dou Qi can be depleted by high-output techniques. Huo Yuhao’s flying Spirit Artifact skill, Wind Feathers, drained his reserves immediately after use. 18
• External-energy recovery is vulnerable when an opponent disrupts or seals off the surrounding heaven-and-earth energy. 85
• Foreign flames or incompatible changes to a cultivation art can cause Dou Qi to become uncontrollable. 26 27
• Directly consuming pills to force breakthroughs may damage a cultivator’s long-term foundation; Yao Chen’s own reliance on pills contributed to him being blocked at the threshold of Dou Sheng. 117
