Homeroom Teacher—Lin Kai
Of course, most people had not noticed this anomaly. They even thought it was perfectly normal. Only someone like him, who had transmigrated here, could sense how strange it felt.
He also suspected that the people in the so-called Pokémon League were not from this world. They might have come from another Pokémon world.
He suspected this because many modern technologies—such as Poké Balls, Potions, Pokédexes, Pokéblock technology, spatial compression devices, and so on—were exactly the same as in the anime. They were not something Blue Star could have developed so easily in just over three hundred years.
However, for a student about to enter Grade 11, investigating that was far too early. He could only indulge in random speculation. What he needed to consider most right now was choosing his academic track.
After Pokémon descended into reality, high school students had gained an additional option when choosing their tracks in Grade 11: Spirit Studies.
High school students who wished to become Trainers in the future would choose Spirit Studies in Grade 11. There were no grade requirements; anyone who wanted to join could choose it.
After Pokémon descended, countless wars had broken out. But once those wars ended and Blue Star entered an era of peace, the profession of Trainer rapidly developed.
Naturally, the existence of Trainers was inevitable. After Pokémon descended, Blue Star expanded to ten times its original size. Yet while the planet expanded, humanity's productive capacity failed to keep pace, and Pokémon were far stronger than humans at the time.
As a result, humanity's territory had not expanded much compared to his previous life. The other regions—forests, plateaus, oceans, deserts, and basins—were all occupied by Pokémon.
Humans at the time simply could not fight Pokémon. They only had muskets and cannons, leaving them at a complete disadvantage in battles against Pokémon.
Even the breaking of humanity's physical limits due to the changes in the world did not happen until decades later.
If the Pokémon League had not taught the nations how to capture Pokémon, humanity's territory would have been even smaller than it was now.
After more than three hundred years of effort, humanity's territory continued to expand. Especially over the past decade or so, the pace of expansion had grown faster and faster, while the number of Trainers kept increasing.
Humanity was expanding its territory at an unimaginable speed.
As all sorts of random thoughts ran through his mind, a sudden movement caught his attention.
A fluffy brown head slowly poked out from the desk drawer of the classmate beside him.
It was a wholly brown Pokémon, catlike in appearance, with a thick layer of fur around its neck like a scarf.
It had pointed ears and sparkling, crystal-clear eyes.
"Eevee~"
Cheng Cheng said in a panic, "Eevee, why did you come out? Hurry and go back. Don't let the teacher see you, or I'll get scolded again."
"Eevee~"
Eevee shook its head. It had no intention of staying in that drawer any longer. It was far too stuffy.
With a single leap, it jumped out and landed in Jiang Jing's arms.
He immediately began petting it, stroking Eevee's fluffy head. Its fur was even softer and smoother than Pachirisu's.
Eevee let out a comfortable little cry and refused to leave again. Clearly, Eevee was very familiar with Jiang Jing—or rather, it liked him very much.
Cheng Cheng puffed out her cheeks beside them. "That Eevee only knows how to run over to you every day. It's practically forgotten that I'm its owner."
After finishing her food, she asked Jiang Jing, "Hey, have you really decided to choose Spirit Studies?"
Jiang Jing answered without hesitation, "Of course. With my current grades, getting into a first-tier university is too difficult. I might as well give Spirit Studies a try."
"Besides, who would choose to give up the chance to become a Trainer?"
Cheng Cheng nodded in agreement. "Exactly. That's what I think too. My family also supports me becoming a Trainer."
"Maybe we'll even be in the same class next semester."
Looking at Cheng Cheng as she dreamed about the future, Jiang Jing sighed inwardly. Both of Cheng Cheng's parents worked in the education system.
Her father was the dean of studies at Rongcheng's best middle school, Rongcheng No. 1 High School. Her mother had once been a Trainer and was now a Grade 12 Spirit Studies teacher at No. 8 High School.
Yet despite having two teachers for parents, her academic grades were still so "mediocre." It could only be said that she was completely unsuited for the National College Entrance Examination route and could only try Spirit Studies to see whether she had any talent.
Cheng Cheng continued, "The homeroom teacher said he'll talk about track selection this morning. I want to ask him how Starter Pokémon should be raised."
"Our homeroom teacher used to be a Trainer too. I just don't know why he stopped being one and came here to teach us Chinese instead."
Jiang Jing said in surprise, "Huh? You even know that?"
"But appearances really are deceptive. I never would've guessed Old Lin used to be a Trainer."
Time slowly passed. For Grade 10 students in the midst of the Final Exam period, time went by quickly. After taking exams and going over a few papers, the morning was gone.
Very soon, it was time for the final class of the day: their homeroom teacher's Chinese class. A thin man, roughly 182 centimeters tall and wearing black-rimmed glasses, walked in.
This was the homeroom teacher and Chinese teacher of Grade 10 Class 3—Lin Kai.
After class began, Teacher Lin did not start teaching. Instead, he swept his gaze around the entire classroom, taking in everyone's expressions before beginning to speak about something else.
"Today, we won't be taking an exam or going over papers. Instead, we'll discuss next semester's track selection."
"I believe you've all considered whether you want to choose the humanities, sciences, or Spirit Studies."
"Your parents have probably discussed it with you as well. Each student should choose between humanities, sciences, and Spirit Studies according to their own circumstances—which subjects you excel at and which ones you don't."
"If you can't properly judge which track suits you, you can come ask me after class."
"And next week is the Final Exam, so you need to make your decision about track selection early. This afternoon, I'll hand out the selection forms. Think carefully."
After hearing this, everyone's expressions became slightly tense and serious. The relaxed atmosphere from before was completely gone.
Teacher Lin Kai pushed up his glasses in satisfaction. "All right, I won't go into detail about the humanities and sciences tracks. I'm sure you've heard plenty about them already."
"I'll mainly talk about Spirit Studies. Especially those of you who want to enter Spirit Studies—you need to listen carefully."
The moment he finished speaking, more than a dozen students in the classroom suddenly straightened their backs and pricked up their ears.
Jiang Jing was one of them. He was definitely going into Spirit Studies. He had asked others about it before, but the information he got had been scattered and incomplete.
Teacher Lin said, "After the Grade 10 Final Exam, students who choose Spirit Studies can begin preparing their own Starter Pokémon."
"For most students, their parents prepare one for them, or they buy one from a Breeding House."
"Another option is to pay the school one thousand yuan and enter the school's Breeding Park to catch a Pokémon."
