Jiang Jing couldn't possibly expose his Data Eye, so he could only put on an ambiguous expression and say, "My Aron is probably around level 15."
Zhang Haocheng, standing behind him, froze for a moment. His expression shifted ever so slightly, a trace of confusion crossing his face, though no one else noticed.
Liu Bin asked him, "Zhang Haocheng, what about you? What level is your Tauros?"
Zhang Haocheng answered honestly, "My Tauros is level 15."
Liu Bin immediately cursed, "Damn, why are all your Pokémon such high levels? How did you train them?"
Sun Le patted him on the shoulder. "Stop showing off. Didn't you see the levels from the earlier tests? Most were around level 10. Levels 12 and 13 are already pretty good. There was only one level 15, and we haven't even seen a level 16 yet."
Liu Bin's expression instantly changed, and he grinned smugly. "Then doesn't that mean I'm pretty awesome?"
"Are you seriously still bragging at a time like this?" A strange, mocking voice came from nearby.
The group looked ahead and saw Yao Yuan standing two meters away with two other students, staring at them as though they were monkeys.
Liu Bin immediately flew into Fiery Wrath. "It's you again, you asshole. Why are you everywhere?"
"We're just chatting, and you have to mock us? Will you die if you don't talk like that?"
Yao Yuan sneered. "I just can't stand certain people bragging. It'd be really embarrassing if the test results don't match what they said later."
"I'm afraid people will think everyone from our former Class 3 is like this. I can't afford that embarrassment."
Jiang Jing said calmly, "Yao Yuan, you really don't use your brain before speaking. Since we dared to say it, that means we're confident."
Jiang Jing wasn't polite to people like this at all and gave Yao Yuan no face. Their relationship had already fallen apart, so why bother being courteous?
Yao Yuan said disdainfully, "You bunch of poor losers have no knowledge at all. How could you possibly accurately sense your Pokémon's levels?"
Sun Le and Zhang Haocheng frowned at Yao Yuan's words. Jiang Jing and Liu Bin were their roommates, after all.
By acting like this, Yao Yuan was clearly showing them no respect either.
At that moment, Teacher Lin Kai at the front noticed them and shouted, "Yao Yuan, quiet down! Everyone stop making noise and line up properly."
Yao Yuan turned his head. "Tch..." After being reprimanded, he said nothing more.
Someone beside him asked, "Brother Yao, do you really think they're bragging?"
Yao Yuan said contemptuously, "Of course. None of their families have much money, and they haven't even seen many Pokémon. What ability could they have to judge levels?"
"They probably compared their Pokémon with a few pet Pokémon and decided theirs were high-level."
The student laughed. "Then they're doomed. Lots of people heard what they said just now. If their levels are too low, won't they die of embarrassment?"
Yao Yuan said, "They deserve it. I'll make sure to laugh at them later."
The student continued, "Then, Boss, what level is your Pokémon?"
Yao Yuan said proudly, "I'm obviously not like them. I tested mine at home—it was level 16. It'll probably reach level 17 in a few days."
The student exclaimed, "Amazing, Brother Yao! I heard that if you're level 16 on the first test, your chances of getting into a top university in the future are especially high. Doesn't that mean you're guaranteed to make it?"
"There probably isn't anyone in our class with a higher level than you, right?"
Yao Yuan said, "Definitely. Who do you think I am? Believe it or not, I'm the only level 16 in our class."
The student said, "I believe you, I believe you."
After hearing Yao Yuan whispering up ahead, Liu Bin said to Jiang Jing, "Brother Jing, that idiot Yao Yuan seems to be saying we're bragging."
Jiang Jing's lips curled. "No rush. The truth is the truth; it can't be faked. We'll know soon enough."
Liu Bin let out a sigh of relief. "Brother Jing, that's exactly what I needed to hear. Now I'm relieved."
As time passed, the testing at the front proceeded in an orderly fashion.
Jiang Jing kept his Data Eye active. It was far faster than the testing machine—he knew a Pokémon's level and talent as soon as it appeared.
Pokémon: Zubat Attribute: Poison, Flying Talent: ★ Level: LV11 Ability: Inner Focus
Zubat was one of the more unusual Pokémon with a base stat total above 500. It was quite common, yet unlike other Pokémon with base stat totals above 500, which were born with Two-Star Talent, most Zubat only had One-Star Talent, with only a small number possessing Two-Star Talent.
It was a rather unusual Pokémon. Its odds of having Two-Star Talent were slightly higher than those of other Pokémon, so it was quite popular, especially among certain evil organizations.
Pokémon: Diglett Attribute: Ground Talent: ★ Level: LV10
After looking through them one by one, Jiang Jing found that the average level in a class was around level 11. All had at least One-Star Talent, while Pokémon with Two-Star Talent numbered only around ten.
He didn't see any Three-Star Talents, nor was there even a trace of a level 16 Pokémon.
He did see two level 15 Pokémon, and Class 8's homeroom teacher looked somewhat disappointed.
Then it was Class 9's turn. Teacher Lin Kai said from the front, "Alright, it's our Class 9's turn. When it's your turn, release your Pokémon and tell the teacher your name."
Liu Bin said from beside him, "Brother Jing, it's our class's turn."
The first student released his Pokémon, a Sandshrew. It had One-Star Talent and tested at level 10. Nothing special. That student looked somewhat disappointed.
Then came the second, third, and fourth students. One after another, they were tested, and most were around levels 10, 11, and 12.
Teachers from the other classes laughed nearby. "Teacher Lin, your class's levels are generally a little low. Your luck isn't very good."
Teacher Lin Kai's lips moved, but he didn't say anything.
"Damn, level 15? That's incredible!"
A voice suddenly rang out. Lin Kai looked over and saw that someone's Pokémon had tested at level 15.
Jiang Jing knew this person too. She was Cheng Cheng's deskmate—Wang Yichang. Her Pokémon was a green creature resembling a flower bud.
Pokémon: Budew Attribute: Grass, Poison Talent: ★★ Level: LV15 Ability: Natural Cure
Jiang Jing didn't know where Cheng Cheng had found this friend. She had a Two-Star Talent Budew right off the bat, and every one of its evolutions was difficult to obtain: Roselia required friendship to evolve, while Roserade required a Shiny Stone.
Then it was Cheng Cheng's turn. After hugging Wang Yichang, she released her two Pokémon—both Eevee.
Pokémon: Eevee (Large) Attribute: Normal Talent: ★★ Level: LV16 Ability: Anticipation
The smaller Eevee also had Two-Star Talent and was level 13.
"Holy shit, level 16! Our class actually has a level 16! And they're both fucking Eevee! My mind's blown!"
The moment the level 16 Pokémon appeared, it drew everyone's attention.
If you spot any typos, please point them out. I still miss some when proofreading, so I hope everyone will mention them and I'll fix them right away!
