Ollivander cautiously opened a box, and the wand inside could barely wait to rush before Darren.
Darren looked at Ollivander and only carefully took hold of the wand after Ollivander nodded.
Whoosh!
Soft mist filled the room, each wisp seeming to coil around Darren.
"This..."
Darren looked at Ollivander hesitantly.
He was starting to wonder whether Ollivander was messing with him.
Was he trying to sell him all the wands he had failed to sell over the years, using them to offset all those years of shareholder dividends?
"Oh, how marvelous, how wondrous... Child, every wand here is telling me that it likes you, that it hopes to become your companion.
I told you, it is the wand that chooses the wizard. They wish to share a great adventure with you."
Ollivander spoke in amazement. Although he had just been pained over the shareholder dividends from all those years, Darren's uniqueness had now captivated him.
"I see!"
Darren scratched his head. Looking at all the vibrating wands, he hesitated, unsure which one to choose.
"Mr. Ollivander, can I take all of them? I can use the Potter family's dividends from all these years to pay for them."
If that really was what Ollivander had been planning, then he had won. As a paternal figure, Darren simply could not refuse the allegiance of so many wands.
Just imagine all these wands casting Bombarda at once. That would probably be even more powerful than Voldemort's Avada Kedavra.
"No, no, no, child!"
Ollivander's face turned green.
These wands were the work of his entire life. If he sold them all at once, he would feel empty inside!
"Child, listen to me. Although you think you need so many wands, you truly do not. One wand is enough for you, trust me!
While wands choose wizards, in this case, the wizard is choosing the wand. Today, you may only take one little treasure!"
Ollivander said firmly.
Ten Thousand Galleons
All right.
Ollivander clearly had no intention of using wands to settle the debt.
He would only let Darren choose one.
But faced with so many wands, Darren was genuinely at a loss.
"Mr. Ollivander, you are the finest wandmaker. My grandfather chose to buy shares in your business because of your talent. You are the professional here—do you have any recommendations?"
Darren looked at Ollivander ingratiatingly.
When it came to professional matters, of course he should listen to a professional's advice.
Ollivander smiled proudly.
He was quite pleased by such flattery, and even found Darren much more agreeable to look at.
"All right, my child. If you insist, then I can say a little more.
If you desire great power, I recommend an Elder wood wand. There was once an exceptionally powerful wand made from this very wood."
Darren nodded. He knew Ollivander was referring to the Elder Wand.
But Elder wood was unstable. It liked whoever was stronger.
He did not like that very much.
"If you have already decided what profession you wish to pursue, you may choose Birch wood, Chestnut wood, Hawthorn wood, Mahogany wood..."
Birch wood was Ollivander's wand wood and could be used for wandmaking.
Chestnut wood suited animal trainers, herbologists, or those with exceptional flying skills.
Hawthorn wood suited healers.
Mahogany wood was James's wand wood.
"Of course, if you wish for your name to be celebrated..."
At this point, Ollivander glanced at Darren.
There was some suspicion in his eyes.
He felt that Darren was not as kind as he appeared.
Because Darren had not waived his shareholder dividends.
All right, perhaps that was somewhat unfair, but forgive an old man for being narrow-minded.
Of course, what truly cemented his belief was that Darren had stirred every wand.
There were many wands here suited to Dark Wizards.
If kind wands had not also chosen Darren, Ollivander would have suspected that Darren was extremely dark inside.
"You may choose that first Aspen wood wand, or Cypress wood, Pear wood, or Larch wood. They are suited to upright, kind, and generous wizards."
When he said "generous," Ollivander gave Darren a pointed look.
Darren felt that he was taking a jab at him.
Still, he thought the last kind of wand suited him best.
As a paternal figure, he certainly could not wield a wand with a bad reputation.
Holding a wand known for its kindness would clearly make his work as a paternal figure twice as effective with half the effort.
No one could resist someone carrying a kind wand.
As for Aspen wood, Pear wood, Cypress wood, and Larch wood, Darren liked Cypress wood the most.
The owner of a Cypress wood wand was courageous, fearless, unwavering, and possessed a spirit of self-sacrifice.
That was practically describing him.
This wood it was!
"I choose Cypress wood!"
Darren said seriously.
Ollivander nodded.
"A wise choice."
He put away the other wands and placed three wands before Darren.
"I have only made three types of cores for Cypress wood: Unicorn hair, Phoenix tail feather, and a scale from an Eastern Azure Dragon.
Wands with Unicorn hair cores are exceptionally loyal.
And this Phoenix tail feather... Yes, it came from Dumbledore's phoenix. He sent this feather three days ago and told me of your character, so I made this wand with it.
As for the Eastern Azure Dragon scale, it was sent by an Eastern wizard friend of mine.
Eleven years ago, this Azure Dragon removed this reverse scale and had my friend send it to me.
It said that the person suited to this wand would care for the world, uphold his ideals, but that excessive rigidity could easily lead to breaking. It hoped he would protect himself well."
After speaking, Ollivander looked at Darren and waited for his choice.
Darren drew in a quiet breath.
He picked up the wand with the Azure Dragon's Reverse Scale. A massive image of an Azure Dragon shot from its tip.
The Azure Dragon's enormous eyes seemed to glance back at Darren. It nodded, then slowly faded away.
"How breathtaking! Is this an Eastern Azure Dragon? It is different from a Chinese Fireball, even though they seem to have the same name!"
Ollivander said in confusion.
Darren secretly rolled his eyes.
Those giant lizards of yours were called dragons?
They deserved to be called dragons?
They should be entirely different species.
Darren lovingly stroked his wand.
Thirteen and a third inches long, Cypress wood, with an Azure Dragon's Reverse Scale core.
"So handsome!"
Darren murmured softly, running his hand over his new wand several times.
"Oh, right. My friend also said that Mr. Azure Dragon asked him to pass along a message to whoever bought this wand."
