According to my limited knowledge, there had never been anyone in history who could cause all wands to stir, not even Merlin."
Dumbledore made a joke.
But Dilys already understood what he meant.
Rare meant important.
If word got out, Darren would likely be watched by many people.
"Ha, then just lock that child up directly! That way, no one else will be able to hurt him!"
A portrait on the wall suddenly opened its eyes and spoke excitedly.
"Phineas, you truly are the most detestable headmaster. No wonder the children never liked you!"
Dilys glared at him angrily.
The child had done nothing wrong. Just because he was different, he had to be locked away?
"So what? I never cared whether those foolish little children liked me. I usually hung children who made mistakes upside down in Black Prison. I think Albus is far too lenient with them now. Take those two Gryffindor Twins, for example—they are utterly lawless. In my day, they would have been expelled long ago!"
Phineas Black said indignantly.
Dumbledore smiled and shook his head, ignoring his outburst.
Instead, he said thoughtfully:
"I need Ollivander to keep this secret, but my old friend likes to show off. Perhaps I should go have a proper talk with him soon."
Dumbledore's wise blue eyes flashed behind his spectacles.
The Azure Dragon from the East...
"Journey to the West."
Could it really have been nothing more than a meaningless bid?
And that child Darren—he believed he might have been better suited to a Cypress wood wand with a Phoenix tail feather.
A few days ago, he had specifically sent it to Ollivander, yet the child had not chosen it.
After all, the child's godfather, Remus Lupin, used a Cypress wood wand with a Phoenix feather. He had thought they should be alike.
Yet there was still a difference.
How could an Azure Dragon from the East be superior to his Phoenix?
That child had chosen wrong!
Phoenix Carol
Darren naturally had no idea that Dumbledore was lamenting his choice of wand.
If he had known, he would definitely have snapped, My great Eastern Azure Dragon can't compare to your featherless turkey?
What a joke!
Holding his Azure Dragon's Reverse Scale wand, Darren found it more pleasing the longer he looked at it.
It was a light brown wand, smooth and gentle to the touch.
When he held it, Darren could feel the powerful force contained within.
Clearly, this wand was not as simple as Ollivander had claimed.
He did not quite believe all that talk about caring for the world and how excessive rigidity was easily broken.
Because he was not someone who cared for the world!
So this wand must have been hiding some secret, and it lay within Journey to the West.
He had some guesses, but he did not know whether they were right.
Darren's curiosity was itching so badly that he truly did not want to keep wandering around Diagon Alley.
He wanted to go back and look over what he had gained these past few days.
"Peeves, take me back. I just remembered that those cakes need to be eaten soon, or they won't taste good anymore. As for everything else, Peeves, can you bring me out to buy them tomorrow?"
School started the day after tomorrow. Over the next two days, he could come here every day to farm temporary quests.
"Yes, little master, you are far too kind!"
Peeves shrieked in admiration.
Darren humbly accepted the praise and had Peeves take him back.
After bathing and lying on the large bed in Gryffindor, Darren had Peeves distribute all the cakes.
Then he could rest.
What he needed now was to quietly examine what he had gained over the past few days.
First was his Phoenix pet egg.
Darren took out the Phoenix egg and stroked his chin, considering how to hatch it.
Perhaps he could just crack the shell open, or throw it directly into a fire?
He had heard that Phoenixes were not afraid of fire. It should not get cooked if he threw it into the flames, right?
[ Ding, the host only needs to drip blood onto the Phoenix egg to hatch it. ]
Perhaps sensing Darren's unreliable idea, the system's voice immediately sounded.
[ Fine, it's not like I was going to eat it. ]
Darren grumbled.
He pricked his finger with a needle, squeezed out a drop of blood, and let it fall onto the Phoenix egg.
Crack!
As soon as the blood fell onto it, the Phoenix eggshell immediately made a cracking sound.
Then a featherless turkey crawled out of it.
"Chirp chirp chirp..."
Darren silently stared at the ugly little thing chirping away, hesitating over whether to send it to the kitchen and make a pot of turkey soup. Perhaps it would even nourish his body?
"Chirp chirp chirp..."
Completely unaware of Darren's thoughts, the little Phoenix affectionately rubbed its head against him. Then it stumbled over to its eggshell and generously offered it to Darren.
Darren hesitated for a moment, then curiously pinched off a piece and stuffed it into his mouth.
Mm.
It was delicious!
It tasted like a combination of Chocolate and crispy biscuits.
Realizing it was good stuff, he hurriedly grabbed another piece.
The little Phoenix had clearly not expected that it was merely being polite and showing its loyalty, only for the human—who should not have been able to eat Phoenix eggshell—to actually eat its shell.
Even more terrifyingly, after eating one piece, he wanted another.
The little Phoenix panicked and shielded its eggshell. At a frantic pace, it wolfed down all the remaining shell in a miserable hurry.
Only after swallowing it all with great difficulty did it look at Darren reproachfully.
Its little master.
"Chirp chirp chirp..."
It cried out indignantly.
Darren was not embarrassed in the slightest. Instead, he put on an "innocent" expression and curiously asked the little Phoenix whether it could find some more eggshell.
He still wanted another taste.
"Chirp chirp chirp..."
The little Phoenix gently pecked his finger with its beak in reproach.
That was the eggshell it used to replenish its nutrients. Humans could not eat it at all.
Its little master was such a freak.
"Fine."
Although the little Phoenix was only chirping, Darren roughly understood what it meant.
It was probably because of that drop of blood.
"How about this? I'll give you a name. By the way, are you male or female?"
"Chirp chirp chirp..."
"If you're female, then I'll call you Carol. It represents happiness. I hope that as a Phoenix, you can always be happy!"
