Levitate?

Roy had never specifically tested Duskull's Ability, but Levitate was a pretty good one. It made it immune to Ground-type moves.

However, once Duskull evolved for the second time into Dusclops, Levitate would stop working and become Pressure.

Could it be that the bandages were so heavy they crushed its Levitate Ability out of existence?

The system's scanning function was far more useful than the Pokémon League's Pokédex.

Roy had previously seen an outdated Pokémon Pokédex that belonged to Yazi.

That old Pokédex could only determine a Pokémon's approximate level and type. Things like aptitude and inherited moves were beyond its ability to detect.

As the old saying went, know yourself and know your enemy, and you could screw them over without fail.

Not to mention that his system could even assess a Pokémon's aptitude.

Normally, if someone wanted to learn about a Pokémon's aptitude, they had to go to a Pokémon Center or one of the major Pokémon Day Cares and use specially developed machines for aptitude assessment.

That raised another issue: whether their Pokémon's information would be leaked. Especially before participating in various competitions—if an opponent got hold of a Pokémon's information in advance, they could target it throughout the entire match.

Although confidentiality agreements were signed before the assessment, how could anyone guarantee that the other party would actually honor them?

Thus, there was another, simpler way to judge a Pokémon's aptitude.

The more inherited moves a Pokémon possessed, the stronger its talent. It sounded rather childish.

But this theory had first been proposed by a Pokémon researcher from Celadon University in the Kanto Region. That researcher was named Elm.

He was Professor Oak's student and the future professor of the Johto region. His theory was backed by actual data.

In summary:

Other than Extreme Ghost Power, which could increase his combat strength, the System Shop and assessment function were basically support features.

Those support functions were quite practical. They could help him assess a Pokémon's aptitude, learn the moves and aptitude of an opponent's Pokémon, and even help him find overlooked treasures.

Next was the system's shop.

Roy swiped over to the System Shop option, but it was still gray. It required 500 Popularity Points to unlock. Where was he supposed to earn those 500 points?

Below the large progress bar were ten blind boxes arranged in a row. One blind box awaited opening at every ten-percent mark, making ten in total.

Roy opened the blind box at the 0% mark, and brilliant golden light burst forth from it.

Before Roy could celebrate for long, the golden radiance faded, revealing a black scale before his eyes.

Roy gently touched the scale in his hand. It was light yet hard, and rich Ghost-type energy radiated from its black surface, accompanied by a faint sense of pressure.

Litwick and Duskull did not even dare look directly at the scale. It made both Pokémon feel as though they wanted to submit to it.

Seeing that every system value was currently at zero except for Extreme Ghost Power, which was at one, Roy felt a headache coming on.

Finally, Roy asked the most crucial question:
