Cain led Erza to the viscount's manor's sitting room. After introducing her to Viscount Livina, Ruben soon entered with Luke.
Luke first bowed to Viscount Livina, then repeatedly bowed to Cain and said gratefully:
"Lord Cain, ever since Vidal took the potion yesterday, his fever has gradually subsided. He even woke up this morning and said a few words. Thank you so much."
Cain was delighted that his potion had worked, but he still said cautiously, "Luke, take me to see Vidal. I need to examine him up close."
Luke looked at Viscount Livina. After she nodded, he said, "Of course, Lord Cain. Please follow me."
Cain had assumed that only he and Erza would be going, but Livina and Ruben followed as well.
Seeing Cain's puzzled expression, Livina explained with a smile:
"After all, he is a servant of my manor. I should go and check on him."
Cain praised her, "They are truly fortunate to serve under you."
Livina was quite pleased by Cain's compliment and covered her mouth with one hand as she smiled faintly.
As for how much truth there was in those words, probably only Cain himself knew.
Upon arriving at Vidal's small hut, Cain immediately stepped forward to examine him.
Compared with yesterday, Vidal was much better. Although his fever had not completely subsided, his body was no longer as hot as a furnace, and the strange flush on his skin had faded considerably.
His breathing had also become much steadier.
After using magic to examine him, Cain discovered that the viral spores entrenched within Vidal's body had decreased by roughly one-seventh.
It seemed that curing him with the potion would take around seven days.
Although that was slower than using his Healing Magic, it had the advantage of being scalable.
As long as the method for making the potion was made public, the Fiore Kingdom and the Magic Council could produce large quantities in a short time and supply them to all the people of Mუდorud.
The healing efficiency would increase greatly.
Once Erza saw that Cain had finished examining him, she asked curiously, "Cain, how is it?"
Cain smiled. "The potion's effects are excellent. I'll write down the preparation process right away. Then we'll need Viscount Livina to send word to the royal capital and the Magic Council, asking them to make the potions and deliver them as soon as possible."
Livina immediately agreed with a smile. Since this would enhance her reputation, she gave it some thought before adding:
"There should be quite a few medicinal herbs in Mუდorud. We can first use those to make a batch of potions and prioritize treating those with more severe symptoms. What do you think, Cain?"
Cain slapped his forehead. "You're far more thorough than I am. Then I'll trouble you to gather the medicinal herbs in Mუდorud. I'll make the potions."
Livina was responsible for gathering herbs, while Cain took Erza to the laboratory.
He told Erza the steps for making the Spirit Purification Essence Potion, hoping she could learn quickly and help produce the potions.
Erza was thrilled that she could save the people of Mუდorud. She put in two hundred percent effort and began learning how to make the potion.
Cain made potions while explaining the precautions to Erza. Only after she had watched several times did he let her try it herself.
After failing three times, Erza finally managed to make a bottle of Spirit Purification Essence Potion.
Looking at the teal-blue liquid in the bottle, Erza felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Just as she was preparing to keep going and make a few more bottles, she discovered that they had run out of herbs.
Cain had evidently noticed as well. "Let's go see how Viscount Livina's herb collection is coming along."
Erza nodded eagerly. "Yes, let's go quickly."
The two left the laboratory and found that it was already completely dark outside. Cain glanced at the wall clock and saw that it was past seven in the evening.

At that moment, Ruben spotted Cain and Erza. A strange glint flashed through his eyes as he approached them and said:
"Lord Cain, some of the herbs have already been collected. Please follow me."
Without waiting for Cain's response, he walked ahead. Cain had wanted to say that the herbs could simply be sent to the laboratory, but Ruben's manner suggested that he wanted Cain to come take a look.
Following behind Ruben, Cain noticed that the manor was unusually quiet. It had also been quiet over the past few days, but he could always see other servants around. Today, however, there was not a single one in sight.
Cain found that rather suspicious. Had they all gone to sleep so early? Something was wrong.
Combined with Ruben's earlier odd behavior, Cain could not help raising his guard. Without drawing attention to it, he took Erza's hand and gave it a squeeze.
Erza had been wondering why Cain was holding her hand. It was not as if she could not see where she was going. Then he squeezed her hand.
Erza froze for a moment and turned to look at Cain beside her. Sensing her gaze, Cain's eyes shifted slightly before he continued walking forward.
Erza immediately understood and secretly heightened her vigilance.
Ruben led them to a dim warehouse. "Lord Cain, the herbs are inside. Please."
Cain glanced at Ruben, then entered the warehouse with Erza.
The moment they entered, they heard Ruben shout behind them, "Move!!"
The instant Ruben's voice rang out, the people lying in ambush launched their magic. By the time his shout ended, those spells had already reached Cain and Erza.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
A succession of explosions echoed through the warehouse. Looking at the center of the blasts, Ruben smiled and said to the person beside him:
"Even I couldn't block an attack like that, much less two children. They must be reduced to nothing but corpses by now."
"We can rest easy now, President."
A sinister voice came from beside him. "Ruben, this time we have you to thank. If not for you, our plan would have failed."
Moonlight broke through the clouds and shone upon the president, gradually revealing his figure.
He was hunched over and stood at roughly one meter forty. His dark triangular eyes occasionally flashed with viciousness.
His face was covered in wrinkles like a dried, cracked riverbed. Through his split lips, yellowed teeth could be seen scattered irregularly throughout his mouth.
He wore a dingy gray robe, and his entire body gave off a sewer-like stench.
If anyone encountered him in poor lighting, they would definitely mistake him for a large rat rather than a person.
"I originally thought Viscount Livina wanted to claim all the credit for herself, so she had arranged for you to eliminate us. It seems I wronged her."
Ruben stared into the smoke in shock, but no matter how wide he opened his eyes, he could not see through it.
Light Rain
Arrows of light shot out from the smoke. Ruben and the president immediately dodged and defended themselves, yet the arrows were not aimed at them.
Instead, they struck the other people hidden around them with perfect accuracy. The sudden attack gave those people no time to react. They could only watch helplessly as the arrows hit them.
Thud, thud. Figures fell one after another like dumplings dropping into a pot.
Seeing that the other side had taken care of all his subordinates with just one spell, the president's expression became grave.
By then, the smoke had completely dispersed, revealing Cain and Erza standing before Ruben and the president without a scratch.
Looking at them, Cain said calmly, "Wouldn't you introduce yourselves, gentlemen?"
The president snorted coldly without speaking. Ruben, however, was quick to read the situation. "This is the president of our Toxic Fang, Harold, known as the 'Source of Plague.'"
