Characteristics

• Soul Beasts are non-human beings whose strength is commonly measured by years of cultivation; documented examples range from a 400-year Scarlet Flame Phoenix Feather to ferocious beasts with hundreds of thousands of years of cultivation 15 18.
• Some Soul Beasts can take human form. Xiao Wu is a hundred-thousand-year Soft Bone Charming Rabbit in human form, while the five-thousand-year Three-Eyed Golden Lion later transforms into the human Wang Qiuer 5 40.
• Soul Beast bloodlines can be recognized instinctively. Xiao Wu identifies Ye Han’s aura as one that surpasses Da Ming and Er Ming, while the Three-Eyed Golden Lion is calmed by his Dragon God Bloodline 10 36.
• Soul Beasts may fight one another for territory. A Titan Giant Ape tribe and Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear tribe battle over a nest in Star Dou Forest 12.
• Some species are exceptionally dangerous even at comparatively low cultivation. The Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear can contend with ordinary Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts once it reaches two thousand years, while the Amethyst Tyrant Dragon God is described as able to fight beasts several times its age 12 37.

Cultivation and documented examples

Soul Rings and Soul Bones

• Humans hunt and kill Soul Beasts to obtain Soul Rings. Ye Han selects a Titan Giant Ape and a Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear specifically for their compatibility with his Golden Dragon Martial Soul 12.
• Soul Rings can grant abilities associated with the slain Soul Beast:
  • The Titan Giant Ape ring grants Golden Dragon Titan Body 14.
  • The Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear ring grants Golden Dragon Sky-Rending Claw, increasing attack power by 278% and inflicting bleeding 15.
  • The Amethyst Tyrant Dragon God ring grants Dragon Emperor: Otherworldly Dimension, a destructive dragon-breath attack that suppresses healing 38.
• Soul Beasts may leave behind Soul Bones. Ye Han absorbs the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone and gains regeneration and flight abilities 5.
• External Soul Bones do not occupy a main Soul Bone slot and grow alongside their owner. The Titan Giant Ape’s External Elbow Bone grants Titan Firmament Elbow, initially capable of releasing one-tenth of a same-aged Titan Giant Ape’s elbow-strike power 13 14.
• Ye Han’s Soul Contract with Ye Guyi allows him to absorb the Soul Ring of the Amethyst Tyrant Dragon God despite Ye Guyi delivering the killing blow 37.

Relations with humans

• The relationship between humans and Soul Beasts is openly hostile. Ye Han and Ye Guyi treat hunting Soul Beasts for rings as normal, while Xiao Wu is distressed by the killing of Soul Beasts in Star Dou Forest 5 12.
• Transformed Soul Beasts are especially vulnerable to being targeted. Xiao Wu is captured because she is a hundred-thousand-year transformed Soul Beast, and Qian Renxue pursues the Three-Eyed Golden Lion for use as a Soul Ring 6 34.
• Gu Yuena views human expansion as having displaced Soul Beasts from their former homeland and forced them into a small number of Soul Beast forests 62.
• Ye Han uses his Dragon God Bloodline to persuade Xiao Wu that he seeks the revival of the Soul Beast race; she accepts this claim and swears obedience to him as “Master” 10 11.

• Notting City incident: Xiao Wu is exposed as a transformed Soul Beast, defeated, captured, and later deceived into serving Ye Han 5 6 10 11.
• Star Dou Forest hunt: Ye Han acquires his first two Soul Rings from a 6,913-year Titan Giant Ape and a 7,891-year Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear; the ape also leaves an External Elbow Bone 12 14.
• Sunset Forest encounter: The Three-Eyed Golden Lion escapes Qian Renxue’s pursuit, is protected by Ye Han, and forms a fate connection with him before transforming into Wang Qiuer 34 36 38 40.
• Far North beast tide: Thousands of Soul Beasts gather near the Heaven Dou border, not to attack, but to search for the Myriad-Year Ice Cave under the Snow Empress’s orders 54 63.
