Liu Chuan was an outstanding Shin’ō Academy student, graduating at the top of his class with exceptional grades and strong fundamentals in Kido and swordsmanship. Rather than enter the Gotei 13, he chose the Kido Corps, where he spent roughly ten years studying Spirit Particles, Kido principles, barriers, and World-Crossing Gate maintenance. 1 2 45 61

Before arriving in Soul Society, Liu Chuan had been a mage in another world. Unable to use conventional magic in a world governed by Spirit Particles, he spent years devising a method to recreate Magic Power through Spiritual Power conversion and reconstructed Magic Circuits. 1 27

Zero Division invited him after recognizing his unusual “creations.” Liu Chuan accepted only after securing an unprecedented concession: he would remain primarily stationed in the Seireitei instead of permanently residing in the Soul King Palace. 2 3

During his induction, he refused to have his body remade by the Soul King’s Power and become a Royal Key, regarding the permanent binding of his existence to the Soul King Palace as a loss of independence. Personality

Liu Chuan is analytical, self-contained, and difficult to pressure into acting against his judgment. He treats rank with proper respect but does not become servile before authority, as shown when he set terms for joining Zero Division and later confronted Central 46 over its judgment against Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Sōjirō Kusaka. 2 3 15

He is willing to accept responsibility and risk, but refuses power that would place his life, identity, or choices under the permanent control of another system.
