Lin Ye's eyes deepened, and his fingers unconsciously tapped the edge of the bed. Just as his thoughts were wandering, a knock on the door suddenly rang out.

Knock knock knock.

Three strikes, neither too heavy nor too light, with a steady rhythm, sounded particularly striking in the quiet of the night.

Lin Ye jolted awake, almost reflexively summoning his Martial Soul.

Depend on!

Knocking on the door in the middle of the night, are you crazy?

His muscles tensed instantly, his Soul Power circulated rapidly within his body, and his Spirit Power silently extended outwards to probe the situation outside the door.

If this weren't Shrek Academy, with Mu En and numerous Super Douluo present, Lin Ye would have truly thought he had encountered something sinister.

Lin Ye held his breath, walked to the door, and instead of opening it immediately, peeked out through the crack in the door.

When he saw the familiar figure outside the door, his heart finally settled down, and the Soul Power circulating within his body slowly dissipated.

He opened the door, a teasing smile on his face, and leaned against the doorframe, saying, "Oh, you've finally decided to come back? I thought some idiot had kidnapped you, and I was just about to organize a search party for you."

But Wang Dong'er, who was standing outside the door, did not refute him as usual.

She stood there quietly, looking up at Lin Ye, her face expressionless, but her eyes held a complex look.

The moonlight shone on her face, making her delicate features stand out clearly.

Her long hair was a little messy, with a few stray strands sticking to her forehead, glistening with fine beads of sweat.

He was still wearing his daytime school uniform, with dust on his cuffs and trouser legs, and his shoes were covered in mud, clearly indicating that he had been running around outside for a long time.

Her eyes were very bright, almost too bright, churning with too many emotions that Lin Ye couldn't understand.

There was anger, resentment, despair, and a trace of... dependence that she herself was unaware of.

Lin Ye's smile froze for a moment.

He felt extremely uncomfortable under Wang Dong'er's gaze; goosebumps rose on his skin.

No, did this brat take the wrong medicine today?

Not only did he not come home in the middle of the night, but he also didn't say a word when I knocked on the door, just staring at me.

If this were anywhere else, if this weren't Shrek Academy, I would have already smashed this stick over my head.

Lin Ye mentally ranted, but maintained his ambiguous smile, waiting for Wang Dong'er to speak.

After a long pause, Wang Dong'er finally spoke softly, her voice hoarse. "I didn't go anywhere. I was just in a bad mood and sat in the square for a while."

After saying that, without waiting for Lin Ye's response, she turned and walked past him into the room. She went straight to her bed, and without even taking off her shoes, she lay down on the bed, turned her back to Lin Ye, curled up into a ball, and remained motionless.

Lin Ye stared at her retreating figure, utterly bewildered.

Bad mood?

Why am I in a bad mood?

She's been having a great time these past few days, so how come she's changed like this after just one afternoon?

Lin Ye stroked his chin, completely baffled.

The saying "a woman's heart is like a needle at the bottom of the sea" is absolutely true.

Even though she's only a twelve-year-old girl, her mind is already unfathomable; you can't possibly guess what she's thinking.

Whatever, do whatever you want.

As long as everyone is alright, that's all that matters.

Lin Ye shook his head, closed the dormitory door, and went back to his bed to lie down.

The dormitory returned to its previous quiet, with only the sound of their even breathing remaining.

Lin Ye closed his eyes, but couldn't fall asleep. The complicated look in Wang Dong'er's eyes and her thin figure curled up on the bed kept replaying in his mind.

He rolled over, facing the wall, and muttered to himself, "That brat, can't she just say what's on her mind? Doesn't she worry about getting sick from keeping it all bottled up?"

However, he didn't ask any further questions.

Everyone has their own secrets, especially Wang Dong'er.

Her identity is too special; she carries too many secrets and conspiracies on her shoulders. It doesn't seem wrong for her not to speak up.

After an unknown amount of time, Lin Ye finally succumbed to sleepiness and drifted off to sleep.

When I woke up again, it was already dawn.

Lin Ye opened his eyes right on time, sat up and stretched, his bones cracking and popping.

He glanced instinctively at the bed next to him.

Empty.

Wang Dong'er has already left.

Her bed was made meticulously, the quilt was folded into a perfect square, the pillow was placed flat on top, and there wasn't a single wrinkle on the sheets.

If it weren't for the faint, lingering fragrance of her body in the air, Lin Ye would have thought she hadn't come back at all last night.

Lin Ye raised an eyebrow.

Get up so early?

He didn't think much of it, though. He threw off the covers, got out of bed, and went into the bathroom to wash up.

The cold tap water splashed on my face instantly dispelled all sleepiness.

After washing up, Lin Ye changed into a clean blue training uniform and left the dormitory.

As soon as he got down to the first floor, he saw Xiao Xiao, Ning Tian Wu Feng standing at the entrance of the dormitory building waiting for him.

The morning sunlight filtered through the gaps in the sycamore leaves, casting golden dappled patterns that fell upon them.

Xiao Xiao was chattering away with Ning Tian, a bright smile on her face.

Ning Tian stood beside her, nodding slightly, his face still bearing that aloof and indifferent expression.

Wu Feng leaned against a tree trunk, arms crossed, gazing at the training ground in the distance, lost in thought.

Hearing footsteps, the three of them turned around at the same time.

"Lin Ye, good morning!"

Xiao Xiao was the first to wave, her eyes crinkling into slits with a smile, "We were just about to head to the cafeteria, waiting for you."

"Good morning." Ning Tian nodded gently, his voice clear and pleasant.

Wu Feng merely glanced at Lin Ye and uttered a single word. "Good morning."

Although her tone remained as cold as ever, the initial hostility and resentment in her eyes were gone.

Lin Ye was still a little groggy from just waking up, his mind not fully clear yet.

He didn't think much about why these three people would specifically wait for him here; he just felt that everyone was familiar with each other, and it was perfectly normal to eat and attend classes together.

He yawned and greeted them, "Good morning."

"Hurry up, hurry up!"

Xiao Xiao pulled Lin Ye's arm and walked towards the cafeteria. "The food in the cafeteria is pretty good today. If you go too late, it'll be sold out. I just took a look, and there were so many people in line."

Lin Ye was pulled forward by her, and smiled helplessly, "Slow down, no one's going to take it from you."

Ning Tian and Wu Feng followed behind them and quickly walked up.

The group chatted as they walked.

"By the way, Lin Ye,"

Xiao Xiao suddenly asked, "Your dorm lights were on really late last night. Were you staying up all night studying again? You're pushing yourself too hard. Be careful not to overdo it."

"No," Lin Ye shook his head and said casually, "I was thinking about something and couldn't sleep."

"Oh." Xiao Xiao nodded, without asking any further questions.
