Lin Yi rode his motorcycle through the streets of Tokyo.
Having solved the issue of the finishing move for his Heavenly Tyrant Kamen Rider form, he felt the burden on his shoulders lighten a little more.
As for the question he had just asked Suguru Geto, Lin Yi had actually been wondering whether Geto knew if he stood any chance of defeating his best friend, Satoru Gojo.
They were both Special Grade, but Gojo's Special Grade status was nothing like Geto's.
Satoru Gojo had been rated Special Grade because Special Grade was simply the highest rank available to sorcerers. Suguru Geto had been rated Special Grade because the late-stage growth potential of his technique, Cursed Spirit Manipulation, had been judged to be Special Grade.
The difference between the two was obvious.
And Suguru Geto's answer that he would win nearly made Lin Yi lose it. From Geto's reply, he could tell that the man genuinely seemed confident about defeating his best friend, Satoru Gojo.
"So that means True Love Warrior Yuta Okkotsu hasn't enrolled yet. He may have already been detained by the Jujutsu Society authorities, awaiting a secret execution. Suguru Geto has received the news and is arranging to use his Cursed Spirit Manipulation to acquire Yuta Okkotsu's shikigami—his wife—the Special-Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit, Rika Orimoto."
"In that case, Suguru Geto's death day will be Christmas Eve at the end of this year. Nine months from now."
Lin Yi used his phone to photograph the commission note he had left on the message board he rented at the East Exit of Shinjuku Station. Based on his conversation with Suguru Geto, he deduced the exact point in time he currently occupied: one year before the main storyline began.
On Christmas Eve at the end of this year, Suguru Geto would launch the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons Incident across Tokyo-Shinjuku and Kyoto-Osaka. His plan to seize the shikigami of Yuta Okkotsu, a first-year transfer student at Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College with limitless cursed energy—the Special-Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit Rika Orimoto—would fail.
Instead, he would be severely injured by Yuta Okkotsu and personally finished off by the arriving Satoru Gojo.
After Suguru Geto died, because of his relationship with Geto, Satoru Gojo did not hand Geto's body over to the Jujutsu Society authorities for processing or have it cremated.
Perhaps, maybe, possibly, he gave Suguru Geto's remains to Geto's family so that he could be laid to rest.
Then Kenjaku, a sorcerer from a thousand years ago, took advantage of the situation and began making his plans.
A year later, on Halloween, he would orchestrate the Shibuya Incident in Shibuya Ward to seal away Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer of the modern age. Gojo would be sealed, and the Culling Game would begin.
Looking at it that way, he had roughly a year and a half to work with. Plenty of time.
After doing the math, Lin Yi grinned. That was enough time for him to make a killing in Japan and get out of here. His mood improved even further.
After recording his routine commission work, Lin Yi rode his motorcycle around the streets, thinking about how to secure as many benefits for himself as possible during this period.
Before he knew it, he had wandered from Shinjuku Ward to Chiyoda Ward and arrived at Akihabara, the holy land of anime and otaku culture!
Looking at the dazzling electronics stores lining the streets, the figurines and models displayed in shop windows, and the offline idol handshake events being held, a way to make money formed in Lin Yi's mind.
Right, before Tokyo gets overrun by Cursed Spirits, I can stockpile all those limited-edition figurines and models! And signed merchandise from all sorts of idol handshake events too. Stockpile them all. Your boy can be a conscientious scalper for once!
Lin Yi knew very well that once the Shibuya Incident erupted and Satoru Gojo was sealed away, all of Tokyo would turn into a hellish domain.
Tokyo would become a forbidden zone on the map from then on. The idol groups active in Tokyo would basically all disappear during the Shibuya Incident. In the future, the only way to see them would be through old recordings.
But he—well—had signed photos from those idol groups. Those were priceless items with no market supply. Let's go!
Driven by the excitement of discovering a way to make money, Lin Yi began a massive shopping spree in Akihabara.
Meanwhile, at Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College in the suburbs outside the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
In the first-year classroom, Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, the Fully Independent Cursed Corpse who had already been enrolled for more than half a year, welcomed two transfer students.
One was Yuta Okkotsu, the True Love Warrior with the Special-Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit Rika Orimoto and limitless cursed energy.
The other was Yuko Takagi, a runaway girl who had been an ordinary person but was now turning into a sorcerer after becoming involved in Kenjaku's thousand-year-old Culling Game experiment.
"...Anyway, that's the situation. This is Yuta Okkotsu, a student cursed by Rika, the one who loved him most. And this is Yuko Takagi, a somewhat well-known online cosplayer who is becoming a sorcerer for unknown reasons. Everyone, please take good care of them~"
Satoru Gojo stood tall, bandages wrapped around his eyes and his hair spiked up like a hedgehog's. He introduced the two new transfer students to Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda.
The first-year classroom was already a mess. Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda all bore injuries on their faces as they glared irritably at Satoru Gojo, who was acting completely unserious.
"If you attack Yuta, you might trigger Rika, the curse attached to him. And Yuko Takagi here knows absolutely nothing about the Jujutsu Society. Her cursed energy may go berserk with her emotions, and someone could get hurt if you aren't careful. Anyway, just be cautious around each other."
"You should've told us that sooner!"
Maki Zenin was deeply annoyed by Satoru Gojo's after-the-fact warning.
Gojo also introduced his three students to Yuta Okkotsu and the new arrival, Yuko Takagi. As expected, both of them were drawn to Panda, the only student in the classroom who was not human.
They could not tell from his appearance whether the talking panda before them was a panda plushie or a living giant panda.
But Maki Zenin and the others had questions too, especially about the transfer student Yuko Takagi.
"Yuko, haven't we met somewhere before? Ah! I remember now. In the basement level of the Lori Group building in Shinjuku Ward—you were one of the hostages."
Although Maki Zenin possessed only a tiny amount of cursed energy due to her innate condition and could not see Cursed Spirits with her naked eyes, her memory and physical ability were exceptional. She quickly remembered seeing Yuko Takagi during the mission where Satoru Gojo had assigned them extracurricular work to exorcise Cursed Spirits.
"Y-yes. I don't know why they captured me either. I was unconscious for several days. When I woke up, I was at the police station. Mr. Kento Nanami brought me here, and after Mr. Gojo learned about my situation, he suggested that I study here and learn about the Jujutsu Society."
Yuko Takagi answered Maki Zenin timidly, her eyes occasionally sneaking glances at Satoru Gojo, who sat beside the teacher's desk watching the students interact.
The moment Maki Zenin saw Yuko Takagi's expression, she knew the girl had chosen Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College purely because of Satoru Gojo's looks. What young girl could resist a face like Gojo's?
Immediately, her annoyed gaze shifted to Satoru Gojo.
"There wasn't much choice. I don't know what those people did to Yuko, but my Six Eyes tell me that she is already a sorcerer. Rather than let her live in fear in the world of ordinary people, it's better for her to come here and properly learn about sorcerers."
"And once you become a sorcerer, even students can earn money by exorcising Cursed Spirits and buy lots of pretty cosplay outfits."
"Yes! I'll work hard, Mr. Gojo!"
Noticing Satoru Gojo's gaze through his eye bandages, Yuko Takagi's face flushed as she responded loudly.
"Tch. She really is a lucky one."
After hearing Yuko Takagi's explanation, Maki Zenin replied with considerable displeasure.
Born into a major sorcerer family yet unable to become a true sorcerer because of her innate condition, she envied Yuko Takagi's way of becoming a sorcerer immensely.
But she would not take that envy out on an innocent person like Yuko Takagi.
Lin Yi, who was busy shopping in Akihabara, had no idea that the personal side story he had begun as an unregistered sorcerer outside the main plot of Jujutsu Kaisen was connecting with the main storyline in a way he did not know.
