Background

The Heaven-Gazing Sect is a great Immortal Cult whose influence is described as extending across the Five Realms and Four Seas. It came to Mountain-Lifting Prefecture to develop the Origin Realm, a developing realm domain containing innate treasures and divine spirits. 101 134 135

Its Mountain-Lifting Prefecture lineage has endured for thirty generations; Lu Xuan is registered as a thirty-first-generation disciple after entering the inner sect. 8

The sect's Jade Court Mountain grounds include Azure Dormant Mountain, where Hibernation Academy candidates reside, and nine principal peaks, including Heavenly Pillar Peak. 2 134

Doctrine and Governance

Life-Valuing Principle

The sect publicly upholds the principle that “the immortal path values life.” It opens cultivation to many beings, including foreign races and Spirit Monsters, and prohibits wanton killing within its jurisdiction. 3 8

• The sect maintains twelve Demon Fiefs for foreign races and Spirit Monsters. Fief inhabitants may live autonomously under an appointed lord so long as their spirit taxes are delivered on schedule. 3
• Even true disciples may not kill fief inhabitants without cause; sect rules punish such violations severely. 3
• Demon clans that can pay spirit taxes are treated as protected vassal households, while exceptional members may be admitted to cultivate in the sect. 92
• The sect also recruits Embryonic Breath cultivators and mortals to support its immense daily operations, from food production to weaving and demon butchering. 28

Labor and Responsibility

The sect holds that disciples cannot simply receive resources while cultivating in seclusion. Inner disciples must enter a Spirit Directorate and render labor to the sect in exchange for benefits such as true scriptures, Spirit Stones, dharma artifacts, and spirit attendants. 8

This principle does not prevent unequal access to resources. Lineage disciples who have family backing or have rendered contributions may cultivate in ancestral territories rather than entering the Spirit Directorate trials. 97

Jade Disc Protection

Inner disciples register their names on the jade stele of the Jade Court Cloud Sea and receive a Jade Disc. The Disc protects a disciple’s Life Light and spirituality from external powers of greed, anger, and delusion that could otherwise interfere with their fate. 8

The sect’s guiding maxim is:

“Fate is fate, calamity is calamity. Bow not when you see gods; simply honor your own heart and cultivate!” 8

Those who leave the sect and transfer to other paths must sign the Heart Mirror. Its restriction forces them to retreat before Heaven-Gazing Sect disciples, even when they possess a substantially higher cultivation realm. 1 123

Disciples and Cultivation

Hibernation Academy

The Hibernation Academy is the sect’s training ground for prospective disciples. Candidates receive nine years of support:

• Three years studying literature.
• Three years reading scriptures.
• Three years cultivating toward the Embryonic Breath Perfected Realm. 2

Its provisions include spirit-vein residences, three daily spirit meals, seasonal Daoist robes, monthly Spirit Stones, and Little Azure Rainbow Clouds for travel through the mountain gate. 2

Candidates must pass a Qi-Refining Grand Rite to enter the inner sect. The sect’s selection is severe: a first failure receives no support for a second attempt, and only those who successfully gather True Qi become inner disciples. 2 8

Grand Rites and the Three Rites

A Grand Rite, also called a Ritual Examination or Heavenly Trial, is required to cross a major cultivation realm. It allows a cultivator to receive Heaven’s bestowal and inherit the Dao. 2

Orthodox Cultivation Methods

The sect possesses twelve Orthodox Cultivation Methods, which are regarded as foundational inheritances rather than ordinary techniques. They are not freely bestowed: the Great Sun True Form Treasure Canon, for example, is granted only to disciples with merit, commendable temperament, and demonstrated ability. 62 81

• Qianyuan Six-Dragon Imperial Heaven True Scripture — A true scripture focused on condensing the true spirit and circulating spiritual qi; its primary path is Verification Offering. 10
