Background / History

Glutton was an ancient, feared dragon of Dragonstone, known for its savagery and for rarely appearing in public. It had reportedly not roared for ten years before its cries shook Dragonstone after Daemon Blackfyre’s arrival. Rumors held that it fed on dragon corpses, while witnesses recalled it biting the arms from three dragonriders and treating Dragonpit guards’ bones as food 6 9.

Daemon’s black three-headed dragon brand resonated with Glutton’s roar, causing severe pain and a shared heartbeat-like connection. Held apart from the other dragons, Glutton circled Dragonstone as though searching for Daemon, whom he came to view as a fellow prisoner bearing a brand 6.

In the caverns beneath Dragonstone, Glutton confronted the twelve-year-old Daemon. Rather than flee, Daemon appealed to the dragon’s experience of confinement; Glutton ultimately lifted him with a foreclaw and accepted him onto its back. Their first flight became an aerial contest with Caraxes, establishing Daemon as Glutton’s rider 8 9.

After choosing Daemon, Glutton became unusually cooperative around its rider and joined Targaryen campaigns against the Triarchy, the Stone Crows, the Wildlings of Crab Claw Peninsula, and the Mountain Clans of the Vale 11 24 38 50.

Appearance

Glutton is an immense black dragon whose presence is repeatedly compared to an abyss or living obsidian. Its folded wings nearly cover half a cavern, and its shadow can engulf entire military formations 8 50.

Glutton responds strongly to Daemon Blackfyre’s dragon brand and emotional state. It reacted to his recognition of their shared imprisonment with pain rather than immediate violence, then allowed him to ride.
