Background

Natsu appeared near Magnolia six years before Rhode's arrival. He could speak but could not read, and was searching for a dragon; Makarov later considered his circumstances similar to Rhode's unexplained arrival. 5

He was adopted and trained in Fire Dragon Slayer Magic by the Fire Dragon Igneel. Igneel disappeared without explanation on July 7th, X777, leaving Natsu searching for information about him. 110

Natsu hatched Happy from an egg in X778, with Elfman and Lisanna helping. Following Lisanna's death, he encouraged Happy to keep moving forward and carry her share as well. 66

Early Sparring and Beast Missions

Natsu challenges Rhode to their first organized spar in the guild backyard, easily overwhelming Rhode's early summons but showing remorse when the River Crab is forced to return. 29
