Woken by the noise, he could not get back to sleep for a while.
Wan Ying turned on the bedside lamp and reached for the cabinet, intending to keep reading.
His hand found nothing.
The book he had left on the cabinet was gone.
He turned on all the lights, and the room flooded with brightness.
His gaze swept around, but it was nowhere to be found.
He clearly remembered leaving it on the cabinet. How could it have vanished for no reason?
Wan Ying froze, remembering that guy standing beside the bed earlier. Could he have taken the book?
He should have photographed all its contents beforehand.
Regret filled him.
Reason was nowhere to be found.
He should not have bothered maintaining decorum when no one was watching.
No one knew anyway. What did it matter whether he had any manners?
The window was open a crack, left that way when that guy jumped down without closing it.
A gust of wind blew in.
A floral fragrance suddenly filled the room.
Smelling it for too long was intoxicating.
Wan Ying clenched his fists and sulked, feeling that the scent was somehow familiar.
Before he knew it, his eyelids grew heavy, and he fell completely asleep.
He slept until dawn.
His stomach rumbled with hunger.
The person in bed turned over, casually shut off the 6 a.m. alarm, and went back to sleep.
He slept in until 7:30 in the morning.
He got up and washed up.
Wan Ying took a washbasin from his suitcase and did his laundry.
Half an hour later, he changed into his work uniform and appeared downstairs.
Everyone had arrived.
They went to the cafeteria together.
A special breakfast had been prepared, rich and delicious.
It really was delicious.
"Director, did you hear? Their top executive seemed to have come over yesterday. He made everyone train extra in the middle of the night, and they were all complaining bitterly."
"When I came to the cafeteria today, I even saw a few people limping over. They said the executive was in a bad mood and took it out on them."
"No need to guess. Their executive definitely has something wrong with his brain. Who goes for extra training in the middle of the night instead of sleeping? Isn't that just sick?"
Wan Ying took a sip of soy milk and probed, "Is that the only rumor? Nothing else? Their executive wasn't injured?"
The moment he said that—
The people sharing his table gave him admiring looks and raised their thumbs. "Bro, you're impressive. You're seriously vicious."
"Bro, take it easy. This is their territory. How could you curse their executive to get injured?"
"Though I do want to curse him too..."
Wan Ying looked at their baffled expressions and felt helpless.
"What are you thinking? That's not what I meant."
So he had not died from jumping off the tenth floor.
Could there have been some hidden passageway in the middle for him to jump through?
What a pity. That sharp-tongued bastard had not fallen to his death.
After the meal.
They took a simple ten-minute break.
Then they arrived at a conference room and began a law-awareness class.
The attendees had arrived early.
Standing at the podium, Wan Ying easily drew a human figure with colored chalk.
"When you are in danger, attack the enemy's vital points..."
The forty-five-minute class came to an end.
He was responsible for the first half, while the rest would be taught by others.
Since it was a law-awareness class, demonstrations were naturally indispensable.
Wan Ying sat to one side and had the other two select attendees for practice drills.
The class ended.
Wan Ying was tired.
Mainly because he had no interest in teaching.
All he could think about now was where that book had gone. Had it been taken away?
It would be fine if the book's owner had taken it, but it had better not have been stolen. Otherwise, would he not be left holding the bag?
If a blame landed on him out of nowhere, how was he supposed to defend himself? Hopefully, it was just his imagination, and that guy would not come looking for trouble.
After teaching two classes in a row.
His mouth was dry and his throat parched.
The Tribe guide in charge was fairly responsible.
"Director, this is a fitness drink specially supplied for our executive. It's very good for the body."
Wan Ying accepted the drink the other person handed him. The bottle was pitch-black, with red liquid inside.
It looked somewhat strange, not quite normal.
Was he sure it was drinkable?
After two seconds of distaste, he twisted open the cap.
A rich floral fragrance filled his mouth.
Strangely enough, it really eased the pain in his throat.
There were quite a few good things here. That guy was unexpectedly attentive to him.
"Thank you."
Wan Ying walked ahead with the drink while the person in charge showed him around the Tribe.
After touring the whole place, he had only one feeling: his legs hurt.
It covered quite a large area.
Every corner was clean and brand-new.
Nothing openly mentioned money, yet every inch screamed that money had been piled into it.
Wan Ying looked at several figures on the training ground, thought of something, and casually asked, "I heard people say your executive came back. Wasn't he on leave?"
The person in charge paused for two seconds. "He did come back. It seemed he came to take something and then left. He also had the trainees under him do an extra training session."
Came to take something... What had he taken? Could he have specifically come for that book?
Did that mean Wan Ying would not be able to read it for the next few days?
There was no point wasting time, then. Better to finish teaching quickly and leave once it was done.
Still, with only a few days of instruction, it was impossible to make them fully understand everything.
It was only going through the motions. The real purpose was nothing more than knowing oneself and one's enemy to win every battle.
After making a round.
The person in charge left.
Without outsiders around, the atmosphere became much more relaxed.
"Bro, let's check out the area nearby. I heard the seafood here is great."
"I heard prices are cheap too. I'm planning to go shopping."
"Take me with you, take me with you. I brought lots of gold coins. I'm even bringing out my future-wife fund."
"Director, I wandered around last night and spotted something I liked, but I didn't bring enough money. Could you lend me some gold coins?"
Wan Ying pulled out a card from his pocket. "There aren't many gold coins on here, only a hundred thousand. Take it and use it."
He handed over the money with great flair.
The person who had asked to borrow money lit up, took the bank card, and made a tiny gesture with his fingers. "Bro, thank you. You're my real brother. I won't need that much. I'll only spend a little."
"Director, is there anything you want to buy? We can bring it back for you along the way."
They were younger, more like children, and more playful.
Wan Ying politely declined their offer and reminded them to stay safe.
He returned to his room to rest.
After coming here once, he remembered the way.
This place really was nice during the day, fully bathed in sunlight.
As expected of an executive, he was superior in every way, whether it came to food, daily necessities, or lodging.
It made sense. He was the top boss, so his treatment naturally had to be better.
Wan Ying took a shower, changed into loose pajamas, and lay down on the bed.
He did not like wearing tight clothes. They made him feel tired.
The new quilt in the Tribe was comfortable, its cotton soft and its scent pleasant.
After teaching here for a few days, he wondered whether he could ask for a quilt. He could pay in gold coins.
The instant his head touched the pillow, exhaustion washed over him.
The thoughts in his mind slipped out of control, becoming hazy and directionless.
He fell asleep in a muddle, forgetting where he was.
Wan Ying lay on his side, hugging the quilt tightly against his chest.
Pheromones spilled out.
An Enigma totem appeared on his wrist, a beautiful mint leaf.
Another pale-purple pheromone overflowed and rushed toward the bed, wrapping around the sleeping person. The pollen-like fragrance clung to him inside and out.
It was as if he had soaked in a petal bath, fragrant from within to without.
The hidden compartment in the bookcase opened.
Bian He, dressed in dark green, stood at the exit.
He looked toward the bed.
From this angle, he could see the sleeping person clearly.
He was sleeping so soundly, having abandoned Puppy without a care.
He really deserved punishment.
But what was he to do? Puppy had always been softhearted. How could he bear to punish his master?
The concentration of his pheromones grew even stronger. Wan Ying's eyes remained tightly shut, his brows furrowed as he slept restlessly.
Bian He stood beside the bed, bent close, and lightly touched the profile that haunted his dreams.
"Wan Ying, do my pheromones smell nice? You're clutching that quilt so tightly. Are you doing something bad?"
"I really want... to stain you with my pheromones, to let everyone know you already belong to someone."
Bian He removed the Bite Guard.
The sleeping man gave a soft whimper but showed no sign of waking.
Bian He did not indulge himself any further, merely admiring his handiwork.
"Master... sleep well. I won't do anything."
