Background

Dugu Bo first recognized that the Nine Nether Pill Codex could serve as the foundation of a major sect. Its pills could potentially change the Soul Master world, but their value also made the family a target for Spirit Hall, the Upper Three Sects, and the imperial families. The future sect therefore planned to publicly sell only lower-grade pills while protecting its more dangerous formulas and products. 42

Two weeks after producing a large quantity of First-grade Pills, Dugu Bo founded the Profound Spirit Pill Sect in the town where his family lived. Dugu Yao selected the name, replacing Dugu Bo’s original proposal of “Poison Sect”; the new name reflected pills as the sect’s primary business. The Defense Clan handled construction before later becoming part of the sect itself. 52

The sect’s early survival strategy was the Interest Bundling Technique: Dugu Bo exchanged portions of pill revenue for distribution, funding, political support, and protection. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect accepted ten percent of pill revenue and covered the sect’s founding expenses, while Spirit Hall, the Heaven Dou Imperial Family, and the Star Luo Imperial Family also received profit shares. 52

Following the Clear Sky Sect’s retreat and abandonment of its affiliated clans, the Profound Spirit Pill Sect recruited the Breaking Clan and Defense Clan. Both clans had suffered devastating losses and severed their ties with the Clear Sky Sect upon joining. 95 97 Two years after originally refusing an offer, the financially struggling Speed Clan joined as well after Bai He presented the Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng as proof of sincerity. 142 144 145

Within four years of its foundation, the sect grew from a small pill-selling faction into a force regarded by outside observers as comparable to the Upper Three Sects. It retained a deliberately low profile despite its Peak Douluo leader, multiple Soul Fighting Douluo, more than a thousand disciples, and three former Clear Sky Sect affiliate clans. 130 146 169

Recruitment Policy

The sect prioritizes temperament and a clean background over immediate strength. Applicants undergo strict screening to limit infiltration by spies; Lin Wanqiu’s Three-Patterned Poison Illusion Eye is used to create illusions that test applicants’ character and history. 52

Low Soul Power and low Innate Soul Power are not disqualifying factors, since the sect possesses pills capable of improving cultivation potential. 66

• First-grade Pills are refined in large quantities for Soul Masters around the teens in level. 52
