Background / History
The Poison King is a surviving member of the Medicine-Poison Sect and the junior brother of Doctor Yun. Following the sect's destruction, he became consumed with advancing its poison arts by any means necessary, despite Doctor Yun's assertion that their sect's purpose was to cure illness and restore life. 111 112
He was acquainted with Zheng Yu's father and was summoned to the Zheng residence when Zheng Shen was crippled. He stated that he knew how to harm people rather than heal them, and judged Zheng Shen's condition incurable. 19 When Liu Sandao infiltrated the Zheng Clan to assassinate Zheng Yu, the Poison King refused to risk himself protecting Zheng Yu; he only required that the clan's medicinal fields be left intact. 55
During the struggle around Azure Radiance Mountain and the East Devil Palace, he operated alongside Feng Chang while secretly poisoning those around him. He admitted to creating the Demon-Luring Incense used in Feng Chang's blood-sacrifice scheme, then later fought the Black Coffin Entity, He Zutao, with the other major experts. 74 84 86
Afterward, lingering Heartless Tears poison remained in his own body, and he concluded that becoming a Spirit Cultivator was his only way forward. He used plague victims and corpses gathered by Blackwind Stronghold to refine Corpse-Poison Wushang Profound Qi, then unleashed an epidemic and raised controlled corpses to throw Verdant Grain County into chaos. 97 102 103
Appearance
An elderly, black-robed man whose presence is commonly obscured by shadows. His poisoned body bears visible signs of long-term toxin cultivation. 19 55
- Hooked nose and a low, hoarse voice. 19
- Black robes that conceal most of his body. 19 97
- Exposed fingertips and fingernails possess a dark, glossy sheen. 19 55
- Dark-red blood qi, colored by poisons accumulated within his body. 55
- Deep-black toxic sediment remained beneath his skin after the East Devil Palace conflict. 97
Personality
The Poison King is patient, calculating, and intensely prideful in his mastery of poison. He treats poison as both a weapon and a lifelong path, dismissing ordinary morality in favor of survival, power, and personal advancement. 70 106
He is willing to sacrifice entire communities to create the resources needed for a breakthrough, regarding the weak as prey for the strong. Even so, his certainty occasionally gives way to anxiety: he fears the consequences of his master's notes, the poison lingering within him, and the prospect of being unable to reach Spirit Cultivation. 97 102 106
Abilities & Skills
Poison Arts
The Poison King has cultivated poison arts since childhood, blending numerous toxins into his blood qi and physique.
- Releases poisonous mist, crimson poison fragrance, powders, and colorless odorless toxins. 70 74 99
- His dark-red poison qi can corrode the ground and poison wounded martial artists through damaged blood-qi membranes. 55 70
- His poisons can infiltrate an opponent's skin, blood qi, and meridians; however, highly tempered physiques such as Liu Sandao's Golden Muscle greatly resist them. 55 109
- His long-term toxin use has damaged his own internal circulation, creating brief stagnations in his life force between movements. 55
- Developed Heartless Tears, a poison potent enough that he could only suppress its residual toxin in his own body; Doctor Yun later neutralized it. 97 111
Corpse-Poison Wushang Profound Qi
An artificially refined Acquired Profound Qi created from plague-infected corpses.
- Extracted by treating corpses with grayish-white powder until pale-black currents of poison qi emerge and merge. 100 102
- Raw Corpse-Poison Wushang Profound Qi is lethal even to him if it directly contaminates his body. 100
- Tempers his blood qi, allowing every martial strike to carry powerful corpse poison. 108 110
- Condenses into a black-green light blade formed from pure Profound Qi, forcing Liu Sandao to retreat. 109
- Can freeze and poison the surrounding terrain, killing vegetation and corroding buildings. 112
- Is strongly countered by Doctor Yun's Five-Poison Cauldron, which causes his poison-infused blood qi to disperse on contact. 112
White Bone Scatterhand
A chilling Blood-Qi palm technique.
- Forms a giant skeletal hand from blood qi. 111
- Repels the three heads of Verdant Grain County's great families and leaves frost on their hands. 111
- Gains greater destructive power when empowered by Corpse-Poison Wushang Profound Qi. 112
Venomous Threads
Fine poisonous threads used for concealed attacks.
- Can coil around an opponent's body and pierce the skin to inject poison directly into blood-and-qi pathways. 86
- Briefly disrupted He Zutao's movements after entering his body through an existing wound. 86
- Were burned apart by the Black Coffin Entity's demonic qi. 84
Corpse and Insect Control
The Poison King breeds and deploys toxic insects to create controlled soldiers.
- Corpse-Poison Flies can enter a corpse's head and make it move again. 103
- Uses the flies to create a corpse army from bandits and plague victims. 103 106
- Refined Old Sword into a Black Sinking Corpse, a durable controlled corpse with improved movement. 106
- Injuries inflicted by insect-controlled martial artists can infect new victims and turn them into instinct-driven puppets. 106
