Duobao?
Bai Ze looked at Duobao beside him, who had been bound into a rice dumpling by chains, and a trace of confusion flashed through his eyes.
"Big Brother, are you playing bondage play?"
Duobao wore a baffled expression. "What bondage play? Why have I never heard of such a divine ability?"
"Uh... it's nothing. It's just a spell and divine ability that can make people happy. I'll explain it to you later."
Bai Ze gave an awkward laugh and brushed it off before asking,
"Big Brother, what's going on now?
Could it be that we've been kidnapped?"
Duobao did not pay much attention to the bondage play Bai Ze had mentioned. He shook his head and said,
"Not really. I just told the truth and was hung up by Master."
The confusion in Bai Ze's eyes deepened upon hearing that. What did he mean, he had been hung up just for telling the truth?
Were the Three Pure Ones really that brutal?
No!
Bai Ze suddenly came to his senses. Duobao had made a mistake—what did that have to do with him?
Why the hell had he been hung up too?
He steadied himself and slowly asked,
"Big Brother, what exactly did you say?"
Duobao swayed back and forth like he was on a swing. His tone was soft, and his face was full of indifference.
"It was nothing much. I just said a fair word or two. Mainly, it was because Master, that old man..."
"Heh, you two seem to be having quite a pleasant chat!"
Beneath the tree, Venerable Lingbao watched the two of them chatting as though no one else existed and was so angry that he laughed.
Bai Ze was startled and hurriedly looked down toward the source of the voice.
He saw an extraordinarily handsome young Daoist standing beneath the tree, watching the two of them.
However, the chill radiating from him did not seem like a good sign.
At the same time, Bai Ze's heart skipped a beat. His Insight Divine Ability could perceive all things, yet he had failed to notice the person beneath the tree immediately.
Had that young Daoist not spoken, Bai Ze might have subconsciously overlooked him altogether.
He looked at Venerable Lingbao beneath the tree, countless thoughts swirling through his mind, yet he did not know what to say in such circumstances.
After a brief moment of thought, he figured that greeting him should not be a problem, right?
After all, one could never blame someone for being courteous, and one would not strike a smiling face.
"This junior, Bai Ze, pays respects to Venerable Lingbao."
At that moment, his hands and feet were bound, so he could only use strands of hair in place of hands and cup his fists in salute.
Venerable Lingbao raised an eyebrow at those two substitute hands, the corners of his lips curling slightly. "Are you provoking me?"
Bai Ze's expression froze, and a trace of bewilderment flashed through his eyes as he looked pleadingly at Duobao beside him.
Yet Duobao was delighted by the sight. Swaying back and forth, he said, "Brother Bai Ze, well done!"
Bai Ze's gaze grew even more confused. What had he done?
Wasn't he bowing?
Seeing Bai Ze's adorably dumbfounded look, Venerable Lingbao knew that he had not done it deliberately.
With a sweep of his sleeve, a mirror suddenly appeared out of thin air.
Bai Ze looked at the reflection in the mirror and instantly turned to stone. He practically wanted to die!
His two white hairs had crossed each other, their tips slightly curved like fingers, beckoning at Venerable Lingbao.
As though they were saying, "Come over here!"
In that instant, ten thousand grass-mud horses galloped through his heart.
Seeing Bai Ze's appearance, Venerable Lingbao chuckled, then turned to the smug Duobao beside him, his gaze gradually turning cold.
With a snort, he said, "I sentence you two to face the wall here for ten years."
With that, his figure slowly vanished.
After Venerable Lingbao disappeared, Bai Ze shook his head.
He knew he had suffered an unprovoked disaster, but there was no use dwelling on it now. He turned to Duobao Daoist and asked the question weighing on his mind.
"Big Brother, what exactly happened here? This little brother is still completely muddled."
Seeing Bai Ze press the matter again and again, Duobao continued the unfinished conversation and recounted the entire sequence of events.
"This all began when you controlled the formation and opened the gate a thousand zhang wide..."
As Duobao spoke, Bai Ze's expression became complicated. He could neither laugh nor cry. "What kind of mess is this?!"
At this moment, within the mysterious void.
Venerable Yuanshi looked at the returning Venerable Lingbao with an incomparably complicated gaze.
Venerable Lingbao, however, was utterly unaware. He sat down on a meditation cushion, one hand resting on his knee, and looked at Venerable Yuanshi with a cheerful smile.
"Senior Brother, you lost this round!"
Looking at his junior brother's behavior, then at Duobao outside, who was hanging from the tree with an utterly unconcerned expression, Venerable Yuanshi was so angry that he laughed.
"Like master, like disciple. Back when Duobao had first entered the sect, he had been muddleheaded and merely somewhat greedy for wealth, but that was simply his nature.
Yet now, not only has his nature remained unchanged, his skin has grown even thicker!
Did you master and disciple discuss this beforehand and deliberately let Bai Ze in?"
"Haha, Senior Brother, you are overthinking it. How could my disciple possibly have that kind of brain?
This was absolutely a coincidence!"
Venerable Yuanshi snorted coldly. This matter had to be traced back two thousand years.
At the time, the two had been bored, so they had wagered on when Bai Ze, with his cautious nature, would enter the sect.
He had bet that Bai Ze would absolutely not enter within ten thousand years.
Venerable Lingbao, meanwhile, had bet that Bai Ze would certainly enter within six thousand years!
Originally, when Bai Ze had passed by the gate twice without entering, Venerable Yuanshi had known that he would certainly win this round.
Yet unexpectedly, just as six thousand years drew near and Venerable Lingbao was about to lose, that brat Duobao had tried to provoke Venerable Lingbao with his words.
And although his junior brother had clearly seen through it, he had still played along and pretended to be angry, ultimately going with the flow and forcibly dragging Bai Ze through the gate!
"Junior Brother, I do not believe you failed to see through Duobao's little scheme."
Venerable Yuanshi took a sip of Enlightenment Tea, but his gaze never left Venerable Lingbao.
Venerable Lingbao immediately felt uncomfortable under Venerable Yuanshi's stare, but he had already prepared his answer.
He spoke with righteous solemnity, "Senior Brother, this matter is not my fault. Although I saw through it, I do not know why I still entered the trap.
This junior brother thinks that perhaps Bai Ze, this variable, affected me, and in my urgency, I interfered."
Venerable Lingbao wore a serious expression as he spoke as though it were true.
The corner of Venerable Yuanshi's eye twitched slightly. If he searched his own heart, he definitely did not believe it, but no one could say for certain when it came to variables.
Thus, Venerable Lingbao's excuse left him unable to find any flaw to refute.
However, now that things had come to this, there was no use saying more.
He picked up a chess piece. Golden light flashed in his hand, and the chess piece instantly cracked inch by inch across its surface, revealing its original form.
He then tossed it to Venerable Lingbao. "This round counts as your win."
Venerable Lingbao caught it with one hand. Looking at the supreme-grade spiritual root formed from endless primordial spiritual energy, he chuckled.
To him, this supreme-grade spiritual root was not worth mentioning, but he greatly enjoyed the thrill of winning a wager!
Seeing Venerable Lingbao looking as though he was ecstatic beyond measure, Venerable Yuanshi was utterly speechless.
But then, as though he had sensed something, the corner of his lips lifted slightly. He reached out and lightly tapped the void.
The next moment, an image of Duobao and Bai Ze conversing appeared.
"Junior Brother, disciples still need to be disciplined. Seeing him speak so recklessly before outsiders makes even this senior brother angry!"
Venerable Lingbao watched the scene of Duobao and Bai Ze hanging from the tree and mocking him, and his face twitched.
He understood that his senior brother was doing this on purpose.
But he had just won a round. He absolutely could not lose face before his senior brother.
He immediately smiled. "It is nothing, it is nothing. They are merely jokes from juniors."
Yet his eyes narrowed. Within his sleeve, a blue gleam flashed across his fingers, and an avatar silently flew out of the space.
