Martial Arts Hall

Lou Benwei first operates around Yi Feng's Martial Arts Hall as a black-robed skeleton. His early escapades include accumulating debts at Yihongyuan under his own name and fleeing when pursued, earning Yi Feng's anger and the title “Scumbag Lou Benwei” 189 190 219.

Although Yi Feng treats him as a troublesome and apparently fragile servant, Lou quietly demonstrates strength far beyond that image. He defeats a Half-Emperor, overwhelms the Giant Flood Dragon, and catches Shui Xing—a peak Two-Life Martial Emperor—with ease after she attempts to take his Demon Core 239 247 289.

Lou's greatest weakness is his fixation on romance. He attempts to court powerful cultivators, catches an embroidered ball in pursuit of marriage, and repeatedly turns to Doggy and the others for assistance with his dating schemes 287 304 458.

Building His Circle

Lou takes the Black Bear in after the demon accurately flatters his appearance, authority, and fashion sense. Black Bear becomes his subordinate, while Doggy, Night Wind Centipede, and Nai Ji remain his closest companions 348 349.

When Doggy learns that he has a large litter of sons, Lou immediately considers them his nephews and joins the group in travelling to protect them from the Western Demon Forest 350. Yi Feng later recognizes that Lou has completely tamed a large group of demonic beasts, treating him as a capable beast tamer despite his other behavior 399.

Immortal Realm Incident

Lou brings Li Tian, Li Di, and Li Ren to the Azure Sky White Jade Tower and offers them rewards in exchange for paying an enormous bill. When Li Di and Li Ren are killed and Li Tian is crippled, Lou responds to Li Tian's plea with fury 607 609.

Calling himself the “Eternal Calamity God,” Lou hunts down those responsible. He defeats Elder Luo, Wu Qian, eight Star Immortal Realm experts, and Wolong Fu before destroying part of the Heavenly Immortal Palace, killing Wu Fan and Wu Qian, and subduing the Heavenly Dao 610 611 613. He demands that the Immortal Realm's currency be changed to Gold Coins, partly restoring the value of his companions' savings 613 614.

Shadow Island

On Shadow Island, Lou subdues the Spirit King, breaks the Barren Realm's barrier, and assists the Seven Sisters in advancing their cultivation with his breath 549. He later recruits Zheng Wu, the Old Ancestor of Sansheng Gate, after Zheng Wu survives by extravagantly flattering him; Lou assigns Zheng Wu and the surviving sect members to work under Lu Dasheng 853 854.

Lou welcomes Bai Mei to the island with flowers and a formal greeting, gives her a bone fragment to refine, and later involves her in a playful family role-play with Centipede acting as their child 827 921.

When he receives word that enemies have defied Yi Feng and harmed Feng Qianyue, Lou leaves the island to resolve the matter himself. He considers cleaning up problems that Yi Feng does not address to be the purpose of his present existence 921.

Ancient Past and Reincarnation

Lou visits the Burial Sword Mound after one hundred thousand years and pours General's Return wine over the tomb of Piao Yun Chu, the Piao Family ancestor. The visit reveals a rare solemnity and an unrevealed connection to the distant past 964.

In later events, Lou continues to act on a cosmic scale despite remaining in skeletal form, suppressing a monstrous entity, abducting Demoness Chi Li from the Star Sea, and confronting threats from the Demon Race 1343.

Yi Feng eventually reveals that Lou once gave up his physical body for him. Because Lou is a being connected to the external universe rather than Yi Feng's world, rebuilding that body requires him to enter external-universe reincarnation and endure three tribulations and nine difficulties 1558 1560.
