"If you dare walk out that door, don't ever come back! I never had any adoption papers for you anyway!" Vernon Dursley put down the TV remote and shouted at the thin figure by the entryway.

After putting on his shoes at the entrance, Kane Hiss turned to look at Vernon Dursley and Petunia Dursley, who was busy in the kitchen.

"Either way, Mr. Dursley, Mrs. Dursley, I'm grateful that the two of you gave me a place to stay for the past month without asking for anything in return. Don't worry, I won't come back. When Harry and Dudley get home, say goodbye to them for me."

After saying that, Kane opened the door and left the Dursley Household, walking along the sidewalk of Privet Drive.

The shadows on the street that afternoon slowly formed into a tall, elegant man whom only Kane could see.

The man raised an eyebrow. "Kane, you don't look very well right now."

"If it weren't for you, Maxwell, I wouldn't be in such bad shape. What do you want to say?" Kane glanced at the man only he could see—the king from the Eternal Realm of that Don't Starve World.

"Of course I have something to say." Maxwell said, "Find something to eat before nightfall."

"Thanks. I'll sneak around and dig through trash cans by myself at night," Kane said gloomily.

"I mean, you're only eleven. Can't you live a more respectable life?" Maxwell asked in the same gloomy tone.

"If you're trying to persuade me to accept the shadows of the Eternal Realm and let them cling to me, then save your breath. I barely managed to escape from there," Kane said coldly.

Maxwell sighed. "Kane, Kane, you're so naïve. From the moment you stepped into the Eternal Realm, they had already set their sights on you. Escaping didn't change that. The only reason you haven't seen them is because I kept them away from you. But now, I think it's time for you to take that step yourself."

Kane lifted his eyes and looked at Maxwell. "So?"

"Same thing I said before. Find something to eat before nightfall." With a smile, Maxwell pulled a black shadow shaped like a lock from beneath Kane's feet.

In an instant, Kane felt as though he had been connected to something terrifying again. The shadows that had once been sealed within him erupted all at once, filling the shadow beneath his feet before swiftly being forced back under his control.

"It's time to embrace our true nature, Kane. Farewell." Then, with a bang, Maxwell vanished.

Kane turned and looked at the shadow beneath his feet, which was beginning to bare its fangs and claws. He frowned and clicked his tongue. "Behave yourself!"

The shadow shuddered and immediately became docile.

At dusk, Harry and Dudley entered the Dursley Household. The moment Dudley came in, he charged straight into the kitchen and tore through the refrigerator, eventually finding a bottle of iced cola and drinking it in one refreshing gulp.

Harry, meanwhile, carefully brushed the dust off himself, picked up the mop from his bedroom beneath the stairs, and wiped away the footprints Dudley had left on the floor.

After finishing all that, he cautiously poured himself a glass of water and drank it as quietly as possible, then began searching the entire first floor for someone.

Unfortunately, he did not find him.

"Uncle Vernon, where did Kane go?" Harry slowly walked up to Vernon Dursley, who was reading the newspaper, and asked quietly but firmly.

"He ran away from home," Vernon said, turning a page of the newspaper.

Harry frowned. "You drove him out? Why?"

Vernon angrily crumpled the newspaper into a ball and threw it into the fireplace. "I didn't take you two in so you could question me about everything! And I didn't drive Kane Hiss out of this House. He chose to leave himself."

Harry dropped his timid façade. "So you just let him leave? He has no money, and he hasn't had dinner. You didn't even go look for him!"

"We never adopted him anyway." Vernon snorted and picked up the remote to watch television.

At that moment, Dudley came thundering over and rammed Harry aside with the force of a locomotive, nearly sending him headfirst into the fireplace.

"Isn't it better that Kane's gone? My House isn't an orphanage." Dudley sat in his father's lap, and the poor sofa bore a terrifying weight no one had accounted for when it was designed.

Petunia came downstairs then and spoke from the bottom of the stairs. "There's no need to worry about him. Mrs. Figg said he's performing magic over on Plum Blossom Cross Street. Once he gets hungry, he'll naturally come back."

Vernon snorted. "Hmph. He stayed here for more than a month and never once offered to perform magic for us. What an ungrateful little bastard."

Upon hearing that Kane was on Plum Blossom Cross Street, Harry immediately went to the entryway to put on his shoes. Seeing this, Vernon felt his authority had been challenged. "If you dare go out today, then don't come back either!"

Harry refused to give an inch. "Kane and I are different. You're my guardians. If you don't come out to look for me, the police will come looking for you!" With that, Harry sprinted out without hesitation, leaving Vernon Dursley to rage helplessly on the sofa.

Before long, Harry jogged to Plum Blossom Cross Street and saw Kane standing at the side of the crossroads, surrounded by several girls.

Kane was standing on tiptoe, placing a pitch-black hat over one girl's head. Then he lifted it away, and the girl's loose hair rose with the motion of the hat.

It magically transformed into a youthful, adorable hairpin.

The girl's friends all gasped at the hairpin. The girl herself pulled out a mirror to look at it, then, in her delight, threw her arms around Kane and planted a kiss on his cheek. She then took ten pounds from her wallet and placed it in Kane's hat.

"Thank you, elegant little magician." After speaking, the girl took two small steps back and yielded Kane to her friends.

Just as another girl happily crouched before Kane, he spotted Harry Potter standing not far away and immediately looked apologetic. "Sorry, but I think special magic should only be given to special people, shouldn't it?"

"I think you just believe Emily is prettier than us, so you only performed magic for her. But we've waited here for so long. You have to compensate us," the girl crouching before him said resentfully, resting her chin on one hand.

Kane looked at Harry approaching and sighed helplessly. "Of course there's compensation."

As he spoke, Kane held out one hand with its back facing the light from a nearby streetlamp. The shadow in his palm slowly twisted.

Then he flicked his hand, and three black roses appeared in it. He gave one to each of the three girls, then placed the hat on his head without another word and walked away in the direction without streetlights.

"Hmm, cute little brother, why do I feel like he's avoiding us?" Emily asked helplessly, holding the black rose in her hand.

"No, he's avoiding me!" Harry's voice came from behind the three girls, and he quickly ran past them.
