Late at night, not long after curfew.
Although Kane had told Hermione many times that she did not need the Cloak of Invisibility, that Dumbledore had already agreed to these extra lessons and no one would come looking for trouble, so there was absolutely no need for her to hide herself beneath it.
Still, for some reason, Hermione refused to come out, whether because she did not trust Kane, Dumbledore, or Filch's eyesight. She seemed practically sewn into the Cloak of Invisibility.
And so, without incident, Kane and Hermione arrived at the Headmaster's Office. Gilderoy Lockhart was already seated, while the seat beside him belonged to Kane.
The cabinet behind Dumbledore's desk had become a whiteboard, while Dumbledore himself smiled at Hermione, who stood behind Kane under the Cloak of Invisibility.
Keeping his smile, Kane lightly patted Lockhart on the shoulder. "Lockhart, I need to tell you something. Forgive me first."
Lockhart nodded with wide eyes. "You've helped me so much. As long as it isn't a matter of principle, of course I'll forgive you."
"I brought one extra person to this lesson." As he spoke, Kane grabbed a corner of Hermione's Cloak of Invisibility and gave it a gentle tug. Working together with Hermione, he folded it away.
Lockhart's eyes widened even further, as though he were desperately searching for a suitable excuse.
Hermione also looked curiously at Lockhart, wondering why a professor like him was attending such a basic class.
Kane found an excuse for Lockhart. "True masters always keep the heart of an apprentice. Dumbledore is the same. I saw him reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard before bed the other day."
Dumbledore smoothly went along with it and nodded. "Yes, it is quite good. Miss Granger, please take a seat. Class will begin shortly."
