Thump, thump, thump...
When the door opened, Dumbledore apparently had not expected Kane to come here today, at this hour.
"Ah, the horned hat looks very handsome, Kane. I want one myself. As for why you're here, let me guess. Do you have something important to ask me?" Dumbledore paused in the middle of pulling up a Mandrake, then forcefully stuffed it back into the soil.
"Indeed. Earlier, I helped you deliver that feather with the surveillance spell to Professor Quirrell. Is it still in his office?" Kane asked as he pulled out a stool and sat down.
"Of course. Professor Quirrell even wore that hat while teaching two fourth-year classes. The response was quite good."
"Then what about the spell? Did it work?" Kane asked. Dumbledore let out a long sigh. "Ah—I think I know what you came here to ask about. Was it because Harry's broom suddenly went out of control today?"
"You really are a good guesser," Kane said faintly.
"Hmm, how should I explain this sort of behavior? Knowing danger is right beside you, yet not stopping it, even allowing it to happen..."
"I told you before that what I'm doing is planning a grand stage play. Harry and Quirrell both have very important roles in it."
Kane stared at Dumbledore with half-lidded eyes. "Why do I get the feeling you have even less taste than I imagined? When I first met you, I thought you and Kingsley were both decent people."
"That is why I advise you not to label people. Humans are complicated. But I can promise you that the script is firmly in my hands. Nothing dangerous will happen," Dumbledore said confidently.
"I don't trust that. I'm starting to wonder whether you're actually a good person," Kane asked as directly as could be.
