Background / History

Naruto was born to Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and Kushina Uzumaki. To protect Konoha, they sealed the Nine-Tails inside their newborn son and died, leaving him orphaned. The villagers feared Naruto as the beast's vessel, resulting in his isolation and mistreatment throughout childhood 382 590.

He responded to that loneliness with pranks, poor academy performance, and an intense desire to become Hokage so that the village would acknowledge him. Iruka Umino became the first person besides the Third Hokage to genuinely recognize and care for Naruto, a turning point that gave him a place in Konoha 382 590.

After graduating, Naruto joined Team 7 under Kakashi Hatake alongside Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. Missions such as the Land of Waves operation taught him chakra control, teamwork, and the cost of protecting comrades 591 596.

During the Chūnin Exams, Naruto defeated Neji and helped stop Gaara after drawing on the Nine-Tails' chakra. Moke later revealed that Naruto was Minato and Kushina's son while watching the battle with Gaara 385.

Jiraiya became Naruto's most important combat mentor, teaching him the Rasengan and redefining strength for him as the ability to protect others rather than simply gain power 590 592. Naruto is humorous, blunt, and outwardly carefree, often using humor to hide worries he does not want his friends to carry. His childhood isolation contributed to his rebellious behavior, but also forged his need to be recognized and his refusal to give up under pressure 416 590.
